This matched the description of the car Whitaker was following. Assistance from Kanab was requested and Whitaker followed the car until that assistance arrived. Sgt. Tom. Cram of the Kanab City Police Department arrived at mile post 51 and turned west to assist in the stop. At mile post 54 Whitaker activated his emergency lights and wigwags. The car pulled over and slowed to 15 to 20 MPH then reentered the lane of travel and increased their speed. At milepost 55, the two occupants were now at 60-7- 0 MPH and traded places. The car went out of control and almost wrecked when the male driver gained control and increased the speed, to as much as 110 MPH. Kanab City Officer Darren Coleman was at the light in Kanab, stopping traffic, which forced the car to drive straight through the light, heading into the Ranchos area of Kanab. Officer Coleman estimated their' speed through the light to be between 80 and 90 MPH. Coleman and Whitaker both followed the car along Powell Drive where they found it parked, after leaving several feet of skid marks, at the comer of Kane Drive and Powell. Because of the suspect car maintaining its high speeds, they lost visual contact with the car and suspects for approximately 20 seconds. Stopping on the suspect vehicle, they found it to be empty and immediately started looking in the near-b- y bushes and houses for the suspects. Sgt. Cutler and Trooper Cluff arrived at the scene and were updated on the situation. Trooper Cluff observed the suspects laying on the ground, hiding behind an 18 inch brick wall on the north west comer of the intersection. Several officers approached the suspects who were laying on the ground. Both were handcuffed and searched, and arrested without further incident. The female was identified as Dianna Ring and the male as Patrick Ring. Dianna was found to be on parole out of Texas and is now wanted back to finish a two year sentence for prescription fraud. Patrick was found to not have any warrants, but his license was suspended out of Texas. Both were booked into the Kane County Jail for stolen vehicle, several traffic violations, and the suspended license. |
