Jackeroo broke from the gate In front and was never challenged, as the bay gelding led by two lengths at the finish, winning a purse of $15,350.50 for the owners. It was the richest purse ever for Beaver County, and the second running of the George Marshall Stakes for two year olds. Mark's Emperor, owned by Gale, Rosenlof and Williams, ridden by was second and won Sorenson $5,861.10 for the ownrs. Horsemans Prayer, owned by Jersey and Crane, came on In the stretch to place third, with Tonahill aboard, winning $3,070.10. The George Marshall Stakes started with 137 nominations a year ago, and had 36 In the trials on July 21st during the Beaver Lions Dairy District -- Derby. Nominations will be required for the Lions Derby next year and are due now. They estimate a $15,000 purse for this popular race. The rain started between the second and third race, and there were few rays of sunshine the rest of the day. By the eighth race, George Marshall Stakes, the track was covered with about three inches of slop. But they finished all eleven races. Unbeatable won the Wildy Yardley Handicap, coming from the rear on the back stretch to win easily, at one mile and 70. The three year old owned by Monte Marshall, lived up to his name. Roman City was second, and High George T, third. Merry Me Tomey, owned by Joe Burns won the first race; Kid Rullah, owned by Gordon Bringhurst, the second race; Moonlight Knight, owned by D. Sullivan and Sons, the third; Little Lepp, the fourth; Growling George the fifth; Hig A Due, the sixth race; Kissin Jon, the seventh; Beaus Court, the ninth and Dainty Time, the tenth race. It was the fourth race meet at the Beaver track this year, one of the most popular tracks in Utah.
