We cannot afford the con- tinuous loss of some 100,000 farmers annuaUy without seriously undermining the entire rural economy and without seriously threatening our capacity to produce enough food and fiber to meet our evergrowing commitments both at home and abroad, Simpson said. He pointed out that rural and cities are now reaping the harvest of their unconcern for the unrecoverable loss of nearly two million farm families since World Warr H. You cant take over 10 million people out of rural America without depleting the economy, decimating its towns and villages and eroding its social fabric, the FHA Director said. And you cant shove these 10 million people into overcrowded cities without imposing untold harm to them and without adding incredible problems to the cities themselves.
