Show mroovne comnmeini'ifcaii'y AA Fantomas" The Sound of Music" Thats Spoof. High Camp Spy '.about the only way they could sell this thing. Unfortunately spy spoofs have been beat to death and theyre about as low camp as existentialism. This movie may hold the all time record for automobile destruction, insurance agents are warned away. A AA Born Free" Born Free is no doubt the most honest animal picture ever made. Unlike the usual movies in this genre there is no sensationalism, no Ring-linBrothers type foolishness and no needless paddling. It's a good movie and Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna are remarkably good as the family who adopts the lions. Some people, myself included, are not much interested in this sort of picture, but you cant help admiring it for what it is. tick The movie is a little overlong but it's a touching good story and the music is a joy. The cinematography is excellent, the aerial photography fantastic. The story, based on actual events in the lives of Baron von Trapp, his children and his wife Maria, is delightful and quite exciting. The Sound of Music is a family in the true sense of the word, a movie well worth seeing. AAA Nevada Smith Nevada Smith, a cinema first a sequel that is actually a predecessor. There was plenty of good coin in The Carpetbaggers; but instead of Return to Carpetbaggers we are treated to the life and hard times of Nevada Smith, the character who acted as guardian to Jonas Cord Jr. This one is better, but not much. The main problem is excruciating length (it takes a good half hour for Brian Keith to take Steve McQueen in and teach him how to shoot a gun). Karl Malden, Martin Landau and Arthur Kennedy are the heavies and they are plenty evil indeed. McQueen spends the movie getting even, the audience is left to its own devices. The Glass Bottom Boat A Rock and Doris has now become Rod and Doris, but don't worry, you won't be able to tell the difference. Rod Taylor is a scientific genius and has a very expensive looking apartment. Doris Day is Doris Day, except this time she's widowed (everything to gain and nothing to lose). The title comes from a boat piloted by none other than Arthur Godfrey who fits in perfectly. "A Arabesque" Surprisingly enough, this is a pretty dull movie. Gregory Peck is a scholar who is dragged into the dangerous world of and danger lurks everywhere. He looks very uneasy at the prospect, probably because he realizes the movie just isnt working out. This is a very sad successor to Charade. mainly because the script is just plain bad. In some scenes Sophia Loien wears Dior dresses, in one scene she didn't wear nothin'. counter-espionag- e irk "The Battle of the Bulge" is a of the The Battle specBulge tacular super Cinerama movie full of sound and fury signifying nothing. Warner Brothers (who seem to have obtained exclusive film rights on World War II) have used the Cinerama screen and process with a vengeance, completely forgetting that there are actually people involved. Jack Warner saw The Battle of the Bulge as an excellent opportunity to reconstruct one of World War Its most terrifying battlefield engagements." It loses much in the reconstruction. Those Magnificent Men in Their AA Flying Machines" If the men were as magnificent as the flying machines this movie would have been something else. Maybe it's impossible to steal a scene from an airplane thats about to fly into pieces any second, but in this movie nobody even seems to try. Its too bad, the movie could have been a lot better. |
