Show X A willingness to work anil a lot of time to spend doing it are the two main ingredients to make an Aggiette At tryouts field in the Sjiettruin Monday 10 girls fit that recipe and lie ame new Aggiette members “We judge the girls on how quickly they pit k up the material how well they project tfieir technique and an interview" explained Aggiette adviser Irene Bates “It’s not so inui h jiersonality we look for but rather how hard they’re willing to work and the time they’ll dedicate’’ I Vi ided ujion by seven judges two of them USU professors the girls who showed this desire and skill are: Annette 1 antka Jerri Broadhead Jill Griffin Lisa Holtz Joni Bunker Kiaine 1 urner Heonne Murray Teresa Byington and 1 amra-AnAdams lain I 1 hese new tnemfiers will join the following returning Lisa Brown Piesident Becky Turner and Lisa Hunt Secretary Michelle Spiers Kim Black Kathy Mortensen Palmer Darcie Peterson Wendy Daniels and Celia Keating “We’ve never had more than 20 Aggiettes at a time’’ said Bates “If we don't lose any of them then we won’t have tryouts in January” At times someone does quit often for many different reasons According to junior Cathy Mortensen “llie hardest part of being an Aggiette is the time involvement and that you always need to plan ahead” With the busy sc hedule the Aggiettes follow they have no choice but to “plan ahead” In the past the club has traveled to Oklahoma Indiana New York and various other states along with jierforming statewide at high schools locally at alumni shows and at halltimes during football and basketball games 1 hev must also learn from 15 to 20 dance routines throughout the year Aside trom all the performing they do the Aggiettes must practice anywhere from two to five hours a day maintain a sjiecific weight that has been set for each girl and hold at least a 25 grade point average lVspite all of the school they miss according to sophomore Celia Keating "Most of the professors are very understanding” However Bates felt many of the faculty members are not “Some just don’t understand that it isn't a free time for the girls 1 hey work hard and we serve as a public relations tool for the university We’re working to promote USU and bring a good name back to the university” n Ag-giett- es Vice-Presiden- ts Ench Cro Susan Anderson steps high during aggiette tryouts Monday in the Spectrum as teresa byington stretches in preparation tor a dance routine i f i 1 i 1 i s f U 6“ |
