Show POPULIST TIBET bryan men defeated in attempt to have their candidate endorsed by st louis convention nebraska and minnesota delegations bolt the convention and declare they will support nebraskan samuel L williams for vice president st louis in convention here on friday the populists nominated thomas E watson of georgia for president and selected as his running mate samuel E williams of indiana this ticket was placed in the field after two stormy sessions through out which the nebraska and minne sota delegations working in the lne terest of william J bryan strove dea pera tely to bring about an adjourn 1 ment of the convention until after nominations had been made by tho democratic and republican parties hopelessly outnumbered and without any chance whatever of gaining their object the nebraska man fought des pera tely to the last and when jay A forest of albany N Y mounted the platform and placed watson in noat nation they withdrew from the con attended by the minnesota delegation which consisted however of only one man J delghan it bryan Is nominated at denver the men who walked out of friday s con will support him and they de dare that the populists of nebraska will do so to a man thomas E watson the presidential nominee Is well known throughout the country and his political life is familiar history samuel W williams the candidate for vice president Is a resident of vincennes ind where he has law tor many years he Is 62 years old and has always been more or less of an active participant in pol he was at one time a democratic member of the indiana legislature and has been identified with the populist party since its creation he as gray haired and gray bearded about six feet two inches tall lean and of a nervous temperament at a meeting of the new national committee james H fearls of jollet was re elected chairman and jay W forrest of albany N Y was hosen vice chairman |
