Valetia Starrett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Starrett, 1976 W. 4200 S., Roy, received one of the two scholarships awarded. She has been on the high honor roll all of her high school years with a 4.0 average. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was listed in Whos Who in the Society of Distinguished American High School-Students- . iris State Calls 5 KAYSVILLE Five Davis have been selected High to attend Girls State this summer. Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion and will take place at Southern Utah State College. The girls will learn about the co-e- ds United States government by participating in mock government activities. Those selected are: Cindy Ford, daughter of Laurence Mack ttnd Patricia Ford of Farmington, has been active in FBLA where she has been historian and reporter. She has been a member of the Utah Girl Scouts for 9 Vi years. Heidi Heath, daughter of Henry and Joy Heath of Kaysville, at Davis enjoys playing the piano, sports and the outdoors. She is a member of the Seminary Period Council, the Senior Committee and is secretary of the Honor Society. She has a 3.9 grade point average. She will attend the University of Utah this summer. Lori Homer is the daughter of J.W. and Myrle W. Homer of Kaysville. She will serve as student body publicity manager next year. She will also be yearbook photography editor. She was selected to be an ambassador to the Hugh 0Brian In- ternational Leadership Conference and is a member of the Orrin Hatch Youth Advisory Committee, and the National Honor Society. Karen Lee is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lee of Kaysville. She is on the Davis High cross country team and has participated on the track team for three years. She is a member of the Davis Athletic Association and a member of the Foreign Language Club. Becky Tremea is the daughter of Ron and Cathy Tremea of Fruit Heights. She will serve as next years student body secretary and as a DEtte. She is a member of the Seminary Council. She has been the Flag Corps vice president, a member of the National Honor Society, a soccer statistician, and a member of the yearbook staff. She holds three school records in swimming and has been a member of many choirs. She has been attending Roy High to complete her credits this school year but also is a freshman at Weber State where she is registered in the nursing program. She is currently em- ployed by the Roy City Recrea tion Complex. male Mike Shaner was recipient. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Shaner, 2155 W. 4850 S., Roy. He is a senior at Roy High with a 3.86 grade point average. Shaners favorite subjects in school this year have been music and art and his hobbies include skiing and drawing. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Boy Scouts of America. He holds the rank of an Eagle Scout with a Bronze Medal. He was a student representative with the PTSA of Roy High and has been a participant in the school band. Shaner will enter the University of Utah this fall in prepharmacy major leading to medical school plans for his fu- ture. He currently is employed by Ernst in the Ogden Mall. 2 Roy High Students Win Honors ROY Two Roy High School students, Todd Jarman and n Day, won awards at the recent International Science and Engineering Fair held in AlbuAr-ri- querque, N.Mex. High school students from the United States and nine, foreign countries competed for prizes. Jarman was awarded first place in the zoology division. He won $250 and Roy High received $250. He also won $100 and a certificate from Eastman Kodak for outstanding use of photography in a science project, and received $100 from the American Veterinary Association. Jarmans specialty for study is the chukar partridge. Day, who specializes in studying the barn owl, won a trip to the Waterways Experimental Station in Mississippi. He will show the Army Corps of Engineers how to set up barn owl nesting boxes. Day also won . third place in the zoology category and a gold medal from the Army. Gour Completes Communications Airman Kevin S. ROY Gour, son of Richard E. and Marilyn M. Gour of 3001 W. 5825 S., Roy, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force course for airborne communication equipment specialists at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. Graduates of the course were ditaught electronic principles, and techniques gital switching the repair of multiplexing communication equipment. They also earned credits toward an associate degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force.
