(AP) Artificial heart recipient Barney Clark was eulogized Tuesday as a seemingly ordinary man who became a selfless pioneer. This Good Friday worship experience comes to us from the early church in Rome where it was used in the catacombs, said the Rev. Donald R. Almy, . at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints Federal Way Stake Center in this suburb about 20 miles south of Seattle. To a world increasingly filled with hopelessness and despair, he stood quietly and resolutely for an entirely different view of life, said Elder Neal A. Maxwell of the Mormon Churchs Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. His impact was immense greater then he could possibly know. Maxwell said that while a funeral was a time to mourn, it was also a time to celebrate the life of a special man. On the surface, Barney Clark may have seemed quite ordinary, but he did extraordinary things, Maxwell said. Clarks body, in a closed brown walnut casket, draped with yellow roses and carnations, was wheeled slowly into the chapel as the service began. Clarks widow, Una Loy Clark, on the arm of her son Stephen, smiled and winked at one of the family friends she saw. Clarks daughter, Karen Shaffer, cried softly. Other members of the family, including son Gary, and five grandchildren, followed pastor. On Easter Sunday, April 2, a continental breakfast will be served beginning at 8 a.m. at the church. It will be followed at 9:30 a.m. with the Festival Easter Service, featuring the Living Easter Cross made up of 40 living Easter Lily plants. A man will not stop drinking and driving to save his life or yours, but he will stop when he sees that the penalty is severe, William Plymat said Monday. He said when the impact of the new laws, signed by Gov. Scott Matheson, are felt, Utahs alcohol-relate- d highway death toll should dip dramatically. In 1982, 113 people died on the states highways in alcohol-linke- d accidents. Plymat, a member of the Presidents Commission on Drunken Driving, was in Salt Lake City Monday to join Matheson as the governor signed the bills passed by the 45th Legislature.
