Show 8 Chamber of Commerce Edition, March 1983 Richard Colombo James Dart Sr. Cliff Bergera Retail Chairman Legislative Chairman Golf Chairman The duty of the Retail Chairman is to coordinate the shopping areas of the county East Carbon, Helper, downtown Price, Creekview and Castle Rock and report on their promotions and activities. This year for the first time we are trying to have a county-wid- e sale. The Legislative Committee is an important area of the Chamber and because of our size, is often a very effective voice in the community. We are an organization that is listened to and try to support the issues that affect business, since we are their represen- This tatives. held during successful In- promotion will be the highly ternational Celebration, In the past we have taken a stand on business licensing in the county and Price City, on the proposed coal severance tax, on the current tax proposal on Days which is scheduled for Aug. 3. This is the first time a promotion of this type has been tried, and if successful, it will become a yearly event. When the people of Carbon County see what the merchants of this area have to offer, and the fact that they want their business, there will be no need for them to shop anyplace else. We are working on some for the area unique and encourage shoppers everyone to shop locally. Support our Chamber members, they support our offers Richard Colombo Retail Committee Chairman new member of the board this year, Richard and his store, R & A Market, were honored as the most Oatstanding Small Business for 1982. His wife, Kathy, and his two sons are usually found working along with Richard at the store at the south end of Helpers A Main Street mining properties, and the closing of the Jones Hole Fish Hatchery located in Vernal. We took a stand on the Jones Hole closing because they supply the fish to the Huntington and Joes Valley area. James Dart Sr. Legislative Committee Contact is always made during each session of the Utah Legislature with local representatives to let them know how we feel on issues that affect our community. This contact is always well received and encouraged. Letters are written to our U.S. Representatives on pertinent issues. Chairman Jim is starting his second term this year on the board. He and his sons own the KRPX Radio Station. This family-ru- n station has been a good addition to the community and Jim has done an excellent job as our Legislative Chairman, and has consented to head this committee again this year. I have been involved with the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce projects for the last five years and have served two terms on the Board of Governors as chairman of the Chambers annual golf outings. An avid golfer, I believe that the Chambers golf program has served well in bringing members together as well as enrolling new members. A list of the golf outings planned for 1983 will appear in the Sun Advocate in the following weeks. Anyone interested in playing in these should call social the Chamber office for details. Cliff Bergera Golf Chairman get-togeth- is the owner and general of the Helper Mercantile Co. Inc., located at 51 N. Main in Helper. The company is a wholesale beverage distributorship which serves Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties.
