Show Tuesday, October 27, 1987 Sun Advocate, Price, Utah5A Helper council decides City to buy new water indicators By ARVA SMITH Staff writer An automatic HELPER water level indicator for the two million gallon city water tank on Reservoir Hill was approved by city at councilmen their meeting Thursday. Councilman Gordon Newbold said the indicator will cost about $4,000 and will be delivered and installed in three or four weeks. The new equipment will give a reading on how much water is in the tank. In the past it has been necessary for Gary Harwood, water department supervisor, or another city worker, to try to determine the water level manually. New water storage tanks come equipped with water level indicators, he said. The city council and redevelopment agency have approved using redevelopment funds to pay half the cost of replacement of a broken window in the vacant J.C. Penney building on Main Street. The window was broken a few years ago. Councilwoman Edna Romano said three bids will be sought for the job. Alex Markakis, the building owner, will pay half the cost. Romano said the building will be used by the Castle Valley Workshop to display for sale items students produce, including wood furnishings, quilts and similar products. Numerous complaints of vandalism by older juveniles at Locust Steet Park have been received, Romano said at an earlier meeting. A tree has been broken as well as metal barbecue grills. Romano said that next year the barbecue area, which contains four barbecue places, will be fenced and a strict 9 p.m. curfew will be enforced. Refused by the city council was a request from College of Eastern Utah for half the cost of repairing an electric scoreboard at Helper ball park. Cost of repair of the sign by Young Electric after it was hit by lightning last summer was $574. The sign was donated by Coca-Col- a. Romano said the council was not consulted prior to getting the sign repaired.
