Show 2B Sun Advocate, Price, Utah Wednesday, May 29, 1985 Pioneers deal Carbon home baseball The runs in the second and third innings provided the winning margin for the Lehi Pioneers as they dealt the Carbon Dinos a home loss last week in a game that was rescheduled after being postponed earlier in the season because of weather. Lehi came up with six runs in those two innings and then held on to win the game Hadfield led off the top of the second for the Pioneers with a single and later scored the first e run. His hit was followed by a single by Curtis, who later was thrown out by the pitcher for the second out. Hansen followed with a walk and Lott was hit by a pitch to put men on first and second, with 8-- 4. one-bas- two out. Coolidge then lined a single to load the bases for Baum, who g responded with a 2 on a that put Lehi triple pitch The inning ended with ahead bases-clearin- 3-- 4-- 0. Baum still on third when Turner struck out. Lehi stretched its lead to 0 in the third inning when Palmer led off with a single and stole second. Powell then grounded to the pitcher for the first out. But Hadfield lined his second single in as many innings to score Palmer. Hadfield later scored on a single by Hansen. The score went to 0 in favor of the Pioneers in the top of the fourth inning when Baum drew a walk on a 1 pitch. He went to second on a walk to Turner. Palmer then struck out, but Powell singled, driving in Baum. Hadfield then grounded out to end the inning. The Dinos finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when Bart Grubbs singled and eventually worked around to third base. He scored with the bases loaded on an RBI hit by Freeman. 6-- 7-- 3-- The Dinos tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs. Chad Bianco led off by reaching base on an error on the Lehi shortstop. Mike Smuin followed with a single. Bianco scored on a grounder by Grubbs to second base. Marty then Vuksinick followed with a double, scoring Smuin and bringing the Dinos to but a within four runs, at strikeout ended the inning. Neither the Pioneers or the Dinos were able to score in the sixth inning, though both put men on base. The final inning saw each team score one run, making the final score The Pioneers run, in the top of the seventh, came when Hadfield singled. He went to second when Curtis reached first on a fielders choice. Hansen then grounded out. Lott then hit a fly ball to right field, scoring Hadfield from third. Coolidge then grounded out to short to end the inning. 7-- 3, In the bottom half of the ning, Shane Smuin led off by reaching first on an error on the third baseman. Grubbs then grounded back to the pitcher for the first out, with Smuin going to second. Smuin then stole third and scored on a fly by Vaughn Olson to center field, but that was the only run the Dinos could manage in the inning. Zhaun Powell and Shane Smuin combined on the mound for the Dinos. Powell pitched the first 3 innings and gave up in pitchers. In the final home game of the season Thursday, Dino sophomore pitcher Kirk Reid held Payson to three runs with the final outcome being an 3 after rains had turned the Dino diamond into mud. 8-- LUMBER & HOME CENTER 8-- 4. Hie kick for the Dinos came in the bottom of the second inning, when with Dinos on first and second, second baseman Steve Vasquez sent a hit flying over die centerfield fence. With the three RBIs, the Dinos built the lead that wouldnt be taken away. Vasquez had a good hitting assistant coach, Jim day, Mieure said. The game had been rescheduled from Wednesday six earned runs, seven hits and two walks. He struck out three. Smuin pitched the final four innings, giving up two runs and two hits. He struck out two and walked two. The Dinos hit fairly well, getting nine hits in 29 trips to the plate and scored four runs. Another cousin, Stacie James bowled a 212 scratch game, 248 handicap. She had a 109 average and bowled 103 pins over her average.
