Double-Decke- 12 cup shortening 1 The first is a cookie, and I dont know the real name, for we called them Haystacks. 1 dark molasses 2 cups flour 1 12 cup 3-- 1 tsp salt tsp Baking Powder 1 tsp soda 2 tsp ginger 1 cup sugar 2 eggs Hay Stacks rs j 3 cup boiling water. Blend shortening and sugar. Add eggs and molasses. Sift together the dry ingredients and add alternately with the water. Wien thoroughly mixed, roll to a thin sheet (18 inch) on a lightly floured board. Cut half the dough with round cookie cutter. Use doughnut cutter to cut the remaining dough. Bake on greased sheet 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees. When cool put together with creamy filling. Filling: 2 cups finely chopped dates or raisins 3 4 cup sugar 314 cup water 112 cup chopped nuts Combine all but nuts and cook slowly, stirring until thick. Remove, cool slightly and stir in nuts. Set aside to further cool while making the cookie dough. (Extra filling can be refrigerated for another batch.)
