Show Thursday, March THE GREEN SHEET 6 24, 1988 SPORTS junior Olympic Swim Marks Are Posted Firewater, first, Troy Leary, Cottonwood Heights, second, and Mike Binns, WEST VALLEY. Swim Utah Firewater completed the "grand slam" of the age group short course season on March 2 at the Granger Swimming Complex by winning the Utah State Junior Olympic swimming championships for the first time in the teams history. Cottonwood Heights Aquatics, which had won the meet most every year during the past decade, took a very close second. The meet was hosted by the West Valley Orcas swim club and included 15 teams and 190 swimmers. Firewater finished with 586 points to Cottonwood Heights 554. The next best finish for a local team was an eighth by the Murray Aquatic Club with 81.5 points, while the Pirate Swim team out of Magna was tenth with 50 points followed by the West Valley Orcas. The Kearns Youth Aquatics Team was 14th. Firewater Head Coach Dave Ryland attributed the teams success to "some very talent kids who have decided they want to become a team, a strong team," and to the "great work" of assistant coaches Bryan Pavlish and Danny Harris.
