Eisenhower junior high teacher Clayton Brough, Bill Hennesey, Farmer Jack Bread 1987 FTDA the Guiness offices in England this week. The mega-loa- f emerged from the Bacchus West Case Prep autoclave last Friday afternoon and was allowed to cool overnight before the sides of the pan were removed Saturday. The loaf, produced from 350 pounds of basic white bread dough provided by Farmer Jack bread plant, measured 7 feet long, 2 feet 5 inches wide and 1 foot 8 inches high. The bread was fully cooked and tasted superb, according to Bacchus West Area Supervisor Mike off lenses Vigos. Large slices were cut for display at the school and the new Farmer Jack store in Sandy and the remainder, nearly 300 pounds, was donated to the Salvation Army. Adopted by the students to put our school on the map. the megaloaf project also has involved the entire Salt Lake bread plant of Farmer Jack Supermarkets and a small cadre of engineers at the Hercules Aerospace Bacchus Works. The students had their sights on loaf baked in the 42 foot, Natal, South Africa, in 1984. Eisenhower principal Dr. Ronald J. Hermansen said the idea emerged from a need for better identification for the school and its students. Earth sciences teacher Clayton Brough put his students to work researching a Guiness Book of Records project to involve the entire studentbody. The choice turned out to be bigger than anyone could imagine. At first the students didn't realize all the information, effort and organization it would take to make such a large loaf of bread. according to Mr. Brough. It soon became the talk of the school. Teachers used it as part of their classwork. Chris Moore in home economics taught the science of bread making. Malamene Chong Wong had his geometry students calculate and draw the exact dimensions and shape of the large baking pan. Mike Laverty spent considerable time helping his industrial arts students build the baking pan, and Mr. Brough had his earth science students tackle the problems of heat distribution, baking facilities and transportation After Farmer Jack signed up for the dough, Hercules turned out to be the only industry in Utah with a big enough oven that would maintain the For a limited time, save 50 on most eyeglass lenses including plastic single vision or bifocals when frame is purchased.
