A special feature are the a worms crawling out of the tin can. Magna Man Wins - Worms Take Cake Last September Honsvick went to Bakers Cash and Carry and took lessons from Killa Bosen, who is considered an expert in the art of cake decoration I took the beginners course to learn things that I hadn t already learned, and that 's where I was taught to make frosting clowns." he said Then I took the advanced course in November and learned how to do all kinds of flowers, including pansies. daffoldils violets , lilies of the and primrovalley, ses, as well as queen's lace, daisie-s- , chrysanthemums and bachelor buttons. He also learned the color flow technique, which is a very hard and very shiny icing mix that dries hard and brittle Out of it he fashions flowers, elephants and other objects that kids eat like candy, but he also learned how to use it for writing and making lakes and water. Recently he made a golf cake, complete with greens and fairways Although still an amateur, he has done five wedding cakes for friends and neighbors In fact he was making a wedding cake on Christmas night for a couple who were getting married the day after Chri- MAGNA. A wormy cake was declared winner in a cake decorating contest at Valley Fair Mall, prompting one of the judges to laughingly point out that this was the first time she had ever seen a wormy cake" win. The baker of the cake was Steve Honsvick, the only man to enter out of 20 entries. The entry itself was a lemon cake with homemade lemon filling. On the surface of the 9x13 inch delicacy was a caricature of two clowns fishing on the bank of a lake. By their side was a can of chocolate frosting worms that spilled out of the can and were crawling away. The title of the entry was Gone , . forget-me-not- Fishin. All of the cake was edible, with the exception of the poles, which werefashioned from bamboo shish-kabo- b half, of skewers that were broken in the line that came from a spool wife in his thread s sewing hox and the hooks that were paper clips cut apart. The lake was made out of typing gel. The 30 year old father of four whose wife is expecting in September said that his interest in cakes began at age 17 when his mother taught him how to make roses. It was hard for both of us, he said, because I am a southpaw and my mother is right handed. He went on to say that he made cakes while he was on his LDS mission in Puerto Rico and he remembers his wedding anniversary because he was married the same day he went to work for Mountain Bellas a toll investigator. s stmas Cakes are not his only interest. He serves as his stake's cultural activities chairman, coaches a soft-baand basketball team for the church and is looking forward to ll becoming involved in Magna cs if he can find the time. politi- LOCKUP TOUR FIRST MONTIS FOR $1. Invent received Entrants America buttons and cash prizes donated by the PTA, medalions and ribbons were awarded winners. The Invention America project is designed to encourage children to learn and apply problem solving skills, teaching them to look at old problems in new ways and develop their own ideas, she explained. The wide variety of inventions included an automobile visor map designed by brothers Danny and Cody Geisler, with the goal of replacing the flapping folds of large maps that are so awkward to handle when driving. The boys designed laminated maps, showing places of interest, hospitals and historical sites in a specific area and made to slide over the visor so that travelers can choose the map for the area they are in at a given time. Kennecott Copper became the first industrial concern to donate a miniature house to the fast growing Safety Town which is taking shape at the Magna Recreation Center. The four by four building, that is painted white with a light tan trim, is contructed to fold up for storage when it is not in use, according to Rodney Larsen, maintenance superintendant at Kennecotts Magna Concentrator. It was built in the carpenter shop at the facility, with Ken Tuttle doing most of the work. Across the front is painted Oquirrh Mining Company. According to Tracy Heun, recreation center director, there has been a lot of community support toward construction of the structure and its equipment. Pepsi Cola donated a little Pepsi delivery truck; Union Carbide gave three pedal cars; and the Magna Lions Club contributed $50 toward the construction of another building in the little town, as well as a pedal car. The Boy Scout troop here at the center will build whatever buildings need to be built with the donations that have come in as part of their merit badge project, Heun said. The Recreation Center has instructions that can be used to build the use clay and other expendable objects to create on invention. INVENTION CONVENTION . . .
