Girl Scouts throughout the area will kick-of- f their 75th anniversary celebration today (Thursday) as part of a worldwide event titled the promise Circle. National Girl Scout president Betty Pilsbury will begin the circle at 2:30 p.m. in Washington D.C. by leading girls in reciting the Girl Scout Promise, after which the Promise will move across the nation with groups repeating the Promise at 4 p.m. in each time zone. Nearly 3,000 girls and supporters from the Salt Lake area are expected to join the Promise Circle at a gathering hosted by the Utah Girl Scout Council at the State Capitol, meeting on the steps at 3:30 where they will be joined by local mayors and dignitaries in a tribute to the Girl Scout program. At exactly 4 o'clock, the Girl Scouts will recite the promise and release balloons. Other Promise Circle ceremonies will be conducted throughout the state.
