Students actually get a look at the big picture. We see just how education affects the positions we will hold in the business w orld. Now that Ive got you interested, you may wonder when JA is held. After school sessions are held during the first semester Students involved in business classes around the Salt Lake Valley meet for two hours a day once a week The company runs for approximately 18 weeks During the second semester, JA is held during business classes at participating high schools For Granite, it is held during American Free-Enterpri- and during marketing classes. It isnt everyone would sacrifice a beard he has had for ten years, and do it with a smile. But Dave Adamson, principal at Hillside elementary, is to be the willing victim of a barber during an assembly at the school next Tuesday. It all began last November when Mr. Adamson challenged students to read a half million pages on their own time, before the end of the school year. And with the challenge he gave a promise that if students met the goal, he would shave off his beard in front of the entire school. The students responded by reaching the goal within four months "1 am very proud of these students. They read 556,471 pages, all done after school as recreational reading on their own time," said Adamson. "That is application of what we are teaching, and it is wonderful. Ive had this beard a long time, but I can let it go for a cause like this The kids are great," he said. Hillside pride is inspired by a principal who is creative, innovative and cares about his students. The students respond to his challenge, said patron Nancy Burtron "The shaving of the principal", scheduled Tuesday, promises to be a highlight of the year at Hillside Will the students recognize Mr Adamson without his beard? Will they read another half million pages to get him to grow it back? Either way, the students are the winners, hopefully developing a love of reading that will help them throughout their lives Fathers, Sons To Gather At West Kearns KEARNS.
