Show eh s District Art Exhibit Opening GRANITE PARK. Preparations 28th annual Granite District high school art exhibit, to be held in the girls athletic building at Granite high, 3305 So. 5th are underway for the East. Displays will be offered from 3 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18; from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 19 and 20, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 21. The exhibit originated in 1959, the brain-chil- d of H. Edward Neslen, artist, stage designer and former Utah Teacher of the Year. II craftsmen, gallery owners and art teachers is selected each year to Neslen organized the event as an invitational show for high school students to compare their best work. Later it became the all school state exhibit held at the Utah State Fair art building and at the ZCMI Center. Three years ago, the show returned to its parent school, Granite high. It now features more than 200 pieces of student work in seven divisions, graphics, painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry and advertising art. A jury of five prominent artists. award ribbons, designer, Granite high Teacher Emeritus, and Max Durrant, noted artist, art educator. Granger high Emeritus cups, gold medallions, scholarships and gift certificates to chosen winners. This years jury will include Dr. Nathan Winters, University of Utah, of Utah Art Guide; Bonnie of Phillips Phillips, Gallery and an outstanding watercolorist; Lee Dillon, BYU instructor, head of the ceramic program at Salt Lake Art center. Granite high, and is open to elementary, junior high ands senior high students, parents and the general public, said Mr Snow. PATRIOTS . . . The ABC's of America will be presented in a patriot program at Bennion elementary in which Neil Emery (kneeling), Daniel Phillips (left), Patty Wall and Jill Swiatocha will participate. The ABCs of America will be presented by first grade students at Bennion elementary during a general PTA meeting to be held at 7 oclock tonight (Thursday.) The tribute to America was written and directed by first grade teachers including Joyce Miller, Margaret Henrie, Mary Costanzo, Julie Richa nd Sue Hammer. The program is in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Constitution and the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, noted teachers. Students will portray characters including the Bill of Rights, the Con Orientation Set GRANGER. Two kindergarten orientation sessions will be held at Stansbury elementary on March 25, for children who will enter kindergarten in the fall.
