Teachers and PTA officers at Stansbury elementary are proud of 75 youngsters who like to read and proved it during the holiday season Students at Stansbury. in fact, are reading enough books to line the school's halls with bricks, each containing the name of the student, his or her teacher and the titles of books read. "We set a reading goal of 50.000 books," said spokesman Marianne Witbeck, "to be read during the school y ear and, as a supporting project, we organized a holiday reading contest " Students were invited to join anv of three reading clubs Those joining the White Tigers were to read lour books, one newspaper and one magazine article during the holidays, the Red Tigers were to read six books, one newspaper and one magazine article and visit the library, the Blue Tigers were to read to books, two magazines and newspaper articles and make two trips to the library All students completing their clubs requirements were to receive a certificate Those in the Blue Continued on page 6 4 r ? WARRIOR WORLD Clements by Shelly Walking into the wrong class or forgetting what class was next are some of the problems students at Taylorsville high may have experienced this week. This is the first week of the second semester and many students had several class changes, but 1 hope everyones gotten into the swing of things and are enjoying their new classes. The Warrior basketball team had a double win last week. THS defeated a tough Kearns team and an even tougher Granite team Im sure their good fortune will stay with them and I wish them luck tomorrow i Friday) and Tuesday and they play Granger at home Dont forget, all home games are free with an activity card, so come support our super team. Our wrestlers did extremely well at a Region Three meet against The varsity wrestlers Granite defeated Granite 60-- and the jay vee team came out on top with a 49-win The next meet is at 9 a m Saturday at Kearns. The Lady Warriors are also heading for the top. If you want to see some exciting action, come see a Lady Warrior basketball game Theres one tonight at Granger; varsity plays at 5:30 and jayvee plays afterwards at 7. Next week is the week you've all been waiting for. After being postponed everyones been anxiously waiting for Spirit Week to come. There will be several activities going on throughout the week during both lunches and at the spirit asssembly on Friday. Also, dont forget the spirit stomp after next Friday's game By the way, ail thsoe sophomores and juniors w'ho think theyre going to find the spirit stick had better not get their hopes up too high. We dont want them to be disappointed. Spirit Week is upon us and each and full of day has been KHS spirit. Tuesday was green and gold day. Wednesday was staff impersonation and jungle day. Today (Thursday) is occupation and sports day and tomorrow will be beach and tourist day. There has been competition at lunches, which will continue today and tomorrow. Have you found the spirit stock yet? If you have, dont tell anyone or you may not have it for long. Keep it hidden until the assembly tomorrow. The cheerleaders have planned a super assembly. Judges have been selected for the Reflections contest entries at Plymouth elementary. All the judges come from outside the school area, noted spokesman Mary Peterson Included are, for the music division, the Taylorsville high music department and theory classes; photography, Owen Mills and Jaylynn Studio representatives; visual arts, Kearns high Fine Arts department; literature, Eisenhower junior high English department. Winners will be announced at the PTAs 90th birthday party, to be held at 7p m. Feb. 4. The evening program will com bine announcement of the winners with PTA elections, a Founders Day program honoring former PTA presidents and a program presented by the first grade classes. Birthday cake will be served follow ing the program. All entrants in the Reflections contest will receive certificates for par- ticipation. Leslie Lord was chairman for the fathers and daughters program, with committee members Susan Nielsen and Ruth Molis. Duane Woodmansee was the caller for square dancing. A boys maturation program for all fifth and sixth grade boys and their parents is scheduled for Feb. 25. Cloth TV' your spirit. In sports, the basketball team lost two tough games last week. The girls defeated a Taylorsville last week that undefeated to remain undefeated themselves and place themselves in the top of the region. They play again Tuesday and Thursday.
