If you forgot and turned the tap off, no more water all winter, she recalled, While in that area, she set up the first special education program in the island and, always thinking of books, organized a community and found there are a lot of people interested in writing what the trade calls traditional, or sweet, romance. And many more who want to read them. I asked two published Utah writers, Katherine Jacobs and Betina Lindsey, if they would write a book with what I called an LDS slant - no sermons, just good stories about people. They agreed. So, nervous but determined, she announced in the RWA newsletter that Heritage Romances was looking for manuscripts. Suddenly I had extremely interesting mail, she said. KEARNS. I soon realized there was a there for what I thought of as LDS market for paperback romance romances, she said, I did my homework, marketing novels in Utah. Of course there are poorly written romances, but that holds true for every type of book. There are also some very good romances, books that stir the emotions and give the reader something to think about. My goal is to find a f' iy 4 I f , ip place for myself among the writers who can do that. I hope Heritage Romances will open a field for writers and readers, said Miss King. I want them to feature heroines and heroes in the 8 age group, women with interests and careers that lead them into romance and adventure, men who are liberated in the best sense of the word. Our motto is escape to where the language is love. The books offer a chance to escape for a few minutes each day into someone elses world.
