Show 2B THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, June 86 5, Milestones yf V 9 Atr ' Temple Ceremony For The Steadman, EnglancLRites "Take Nothing For Granted" . . It Said i AM .tA s'' j. I wakened one recent morning and ... in that subliminal state where you luxuriate in half consciousness . . . one entire weekly column came to my mind. Oh, boy was tivities and that was that. Of course I loved them, was also that. But once children marry or leave home for job or school, one is suddenly aware of how for granted we once took their presence. You may be sure that when I see or hear from them now, I I pleased. were gone and all that remained was the phrase Take nothing for granted. Ive taken health for granted. From childhood with a good body and a friend often said, Ethel, you dont appreciate how well you are. And Id mumble something about Yes, I do and then go on to other things. . on, Ethel I have been blessed But I didn t. Then, about a year and a half ago (I know the exact year, day and hour) I had an accident that left me injured. I was inwardly hurt, inwardly torn and the pain was so there that I spent every free moment stretched out either in a hot tub or on the bed to let my body rest and heal. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley G. Steadman and is a Cottonwood high graduate. She also graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.A. degree in art history and will receive her masters degree in educational administration in August of this year. And it did. It finally did, but it was a year and a half before I was free of swelling and pain and I shall never again take my body for granted. Now, when it bends freely, runs and walks as I tell it to and sits without pain, I say my Thanks and pat myself with appreciation. Kandace attended BYU on the Hawaiian campus, studied abroad in Taiwan and was president of the Art History Association at BYU. Take nothing for granted. There was a small diggingcementIeveling job I wanted done in my backyard and knew it was beyond my muscle m power to do. How to get a nice sturdy railroad tie in my backyard? Huh? How to dig the hole I wanted it in ? Huh ? How to pour the cement and all that stuff? Huh? m Bradford Take nothing for granted, it was telling me, and yet, how much I do that very thing. u A Well, I talked about it at the office, and, with a generous gesture, Dorene Meinbergs husband Jim saw to it that a RR tie came to my yard. I asked Dave Burnstein, a neighbor, to do the rest and he said, Of course. But, never, never, never take friends and neighbors for granted because, Dave, bless him, would not take one red cent for his hours of work. Egad, and all that. and out of my back door times a day . . . pass through my kitchen more often, and seldom do I lift my eyes to glance from the window. innum-merabl- Breaking with the more usual wedding customs of our area, Kandace has chosen, in lieu of a reception, to have a luncheon at the Lion House where she, her new husband, family and friends will have the opportunity to visit, share and enjoy each other at their leisure. do not take it for granted. Not one whit. . . in double-weddin- and that The words and phrases flowed through my mind and all I had to do was get up and go to my typewriter. But it was not to be, for, before I was even really awake the words I step Matthew Dunseth England of Salt Lake claimed Kandace Celeste Steadman of Taylorsville as his g bride in ring rites performed on Tuesday, June 3rd, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. , e And yet . . . sometimes at those magic hours . . dawn or dusk . . . when there are no house lights shining to dim the glow, I glance out and the beauty of what I see takes my breath. I wish I were an artist, for words cannot grasp and communicate the ethereal beauty of pond, green lawns and trees of a myriad shades of green. Words are too weary with the days repeating to voice celestial thoughts and so I simply put aside whatever chore I was about to do and look, absorb and say Thank You God. . And I do not take Merlin for granted. Or the Mashes or DeNiros, either. Merlin gardens my vacant lot and it is a comfort to, at times, find him puttering around when I drive in at night. The other two cope with my snow and preparation of the soil for Merlin to seed and life is better because of them. Take nothing for granted, the Inner Voice said, on my list of such are family, friends, neighbors, job and health. And I dont take them for granted at all. and high Take nothing for granted.
