Show 3B THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, May 29, 1986 Kathy Hammond Is Utah Co-e- d Finalist Kathy Hammond, daughter of Don and Berdene Ham- mond of Sandy, has been accepted as a state finalist in the Miss Utah Co-e- d pageant to be held May 30, 31 and June 1st at the Salt Lake Sheraton. Finalists are judged on poise, personality, stage appearance and personal interview. The winner will be crowned Miss Utah American Co-ereceive a crown, banner, trophy, cash award k and an all expense paid vacation to Hawaii in August. one-wee- At that time she will stay at the Sheraton on Waikiki Beach and compete for the national title of Miss American Co-efor 1987. d Elvis And June Evans Mark Golden Wedding Sheehy Accepted At CSU Veterinay Science Steve Sheehy, a graduate of Taylorsville high and now a student at Utah State University, in Logan, has been accepted as a Veterinary Science Major at Colorado State University, Fort Collins. While at USU, Sheehy earned and maintained a scholarship awarded by the agricultural department and finished the quarter with a 3.9 GPA. Sheehy has affiliated with Blue Key, an honor society and has been invited to join the Golden Key National Honor Society, which was founded with the purpose of recognizing outstanding upper division students at leading universities through the nation. Membership is by invitation only. While at USU Sheehy has been involved in the club, serving both as president, and vice- - president. On May 15th, at the groups banquet, he was presented an engraved silver platter by Dr. Stan Allen, pre-vadvisor. He was also one of three to be accepted by CSU through the Wiche program. As a student at USU, he has also been employed as a technical assistant at the Bridger-lan- d Veterinary clinic. He is married to the former Stacie Anderton, daughter of Don and Lorraine Anderton of Taylorsville, and is father of one son, Tyler. Jeri Sheehy of Taylorsville and Wyne Sheehy of West Valley City are his parents. Sheehy, with his wife and son, are moving to Fort Collins this coming August so he can enter at the fall semester at CSU. Buss And Zada Shields Mark 50th Anniversary Elvis and June Evans will be honored with an open house on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Friends and relatives are being invited to call at Evans Heaven 3312 E. 9800 South, Sandy on June 7th between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. The honored pair were married June 12, 1936 in Salt Lake and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They became the parents of six children. They are Genielle (Mrs. Ivan) Orgill; Sharon (Mrs. James) Washburn; Boyd, Craig and Chad of Sandy and Pamela (Mrs. Gary) Peterson of Brookings, S.D. They are legal guardians of 11 other children. They are Mable Nelson, CA.; Carol Lancaster, Sandy; Coral Carleson, Draper; Tony Anderson, South Jordan; David Anderson, West Jordan; Cheryl Edwards and Rose Parker of Murray; Natalie McKeehan, Salt Lake; Diane Cardenas, CA.; Margo Morehouse, Virginia and Lori Lewis, Draper. They were also the foster parents of Lamanite students, Shirley Jake and Margaret Vaughan. The honored pair have 54 grandchildren and five The two have lived in the Granite area of Sandy for over 45 years and prior to that lived in South Jordan and Murray. Elvis is retired from the Jordan School District as a bus driver for 30 years, was an LDS Church custodian and worked at Whitmore Oxygen as a driver. June is also retired from Jordan School District as a lunch manager at Edgemont Elementary and was a cook for the LDS girls camp Camp Oakcrest for four years. The two have been active in community affairs and were two of the instigators of the first Fourth of July celebration in Granite, as well as serving on several planning committees. They are active members of the LDS Church, having served a mission together in Melbourne, Australia and are presently serving a Salt Lake Temple Square mission. They were coordinators for the LDS program at the womens prison in Draper for nine years. They have opened their home to many groups. Among them have been family reunions, church parties, scouts and to many parties and weddings which June catered. Elvis also taught gun safety at their home for several years. They invite friends and relatives and request no gifts be given. The Golden Wedding anniversary Buss and Zada Shields will be celebrated with an open house on May 31st. of L.A. The honored pair were married May 28, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She is the former Zada Louise Evans. The two lived in Delta, Utah area for 28 years where Buss farmed and worked for the State Road Commission. After coming to Murray in 1964 he worked eight years for Brookfield Feed and then was a heavy equip Cindy J. Dukes Is Now Mrs. James Buckley M. Buckley and Cindy J. Dukes were married in double ring rites performed on May 24th at the home of the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Dukes, of Salt Lake. James Cherie L. Boekweg Will Wed Richard W. Curtis The Granger South Stake Center will be the scene, on May 30th, when Richard W. Curtis and Cherie L. their nuptial Boekweg exchange vows. A wedding luncheon at the Stake center will precede the double ring ceremony and that evening the same reception will be given at the site. The bride is the daughter of Gary Newman of Holladay and Mary Ann Adams of West Valley City. She is a graduate of Granger high. JAMAICA -J- A the reception followed ceremony. The new Mrs. Buckley is a graduate of Taylorsville high and attended Westminster College and is a member of Lynds Chapter of the Mr. and Mrs. John Richard Curtis of the groom who is also a graduate of Granger. Kristine Larson will be matron of honor and Shelley Curtis will be bridesmaid, while Lonnie Hollingsworth will attend the guest book. Mr. and Mrs. James M. Buckley of Kearns are parents of the bridegroom who graduated from Kearns high as a Sterling Scholar and attended Utah Technical College. Cathy J. Zada has played the organ and piano all her life and in Delta was the LDS Church organist for the various organizations. After coming to Murray she accompanied different vocal groups. She taught piano in both Delta and Murray. She has won many prizes for her handwork at County and State Fairs and regrets that her eye sight is now impaired and she can no longer do such close, fine work. The two moved to West Valley City in 1979. They became the parents of three children. They are Richard, West Jordan; Carla of West Valley and Ardith, deceased. When their daughter Ardith died January of 1980, her son, Kehl Fredrickson, came to live with the grandparents.
