These include: Intensive inflamatory response. Breakdown of air sacs in the lungs. Formation of cholesterol clefts. Marijuana smoke causes far more deleterious effects than tobacco smoke. Research indicates that marijuana smoke may directly evoke lung cancer or at least contribute to its development. Reproductive System There is a link between marijuana use and disruption of sperm production, possible birth defects, hormone imbalance and disruption of normal sexual differentiation during fetal development. Sexual maturation of adolescent boys depend largely on heightened production of testosterone. Marijuana reduces its production. In females, research indicates an increase in spontaneous abortions, fetal death, stillbirth and death shortly after birth. And since a woman is born with a certain number of reproductive eggs, any damage that results from marijuana smoke may cause irreparable damage throughout her entire reproductive life. Immune System Marijuana smoke causes a lowering of white blood cells and inhibits other cellular processes directly related to the bodys defense system. The Psyche Chronic marijuana use results in deep personality and character changes. Apathy, confusion and poor reality testing occur. The users field of interest usually gets narrower and narrower.
