Genny Wells was chosen Homecoming queen at Kearns high Friday, with Dana Bingham and Amy Ferrin as her attendants. Chosen king was Taani Tai, with Vince Rose and Nick Berriochoa attendants. This is the first year that masculine royalty has been chosen at the school, noted student body historian Trudy Skogerboe. Homecoming activities included a breakfast sponsored by the student body officers, to which all students were invited, a Monty Python film festival and alumni tea and assembly. The game against Taylorsville proved a heartbreaker for Kearns, going into two overtimes and ending with a score of 0 in Taylorsvilles favor. But, it was a good game, and there were more people there than has been the case for several years, said Miss Skogerboe. Half-tim- e activities at the game included performances by the Chat-te- s and spirit club, including alumni from both groups. 23-2- Western Hills ROYAL PAIR . . . PTA officers at Western Hills elementary will host the annual PTA carnival from p.m. on Oct. 4. The event will include dinner, entertainment and games for all ages. Foods available will include tacos, nachos, hot dogs, soda pop, ice cream and cotton candy. Rides include a train, rocket, squirrel cage, swing and ponies. Games will offer a cake walk, sponge toss, face painting booth and many others, plus a chess booth. A drawing will be held including the names of all members of the PTA. A feature attraction will be an country store. Children in all the grades are being invited to participate in a cake decorating contest, with judging scheduled on the day of the event. "We had a really terrific Homecoming this year, with the biggest crowd in years attending various eents," said assistant principal Scott Whipple of Cyprus high. Chosen to reign as Homecoming queen and king were Candie Peel, daughter of Mr and Mrs F. D. Peel of Hunter, and Patrick Fratto, son of Mr and Mrs. Charles Fratto. The Peel girl is head cheerleader and the Fratto youth a member of the football team Both are active in student programs at the school Chosen attendants to the queen were Shanna Mullins and Stephanie Austin The Mullins girl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mullins and is also a cheerleader. The second attendant is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Austin, is captain of the girls volleyball team and a peer counselor. Attendants to the king were Steve Pearson, son of Mr and Mrs. G. E. Pearson, student body president and a member of the football team, and Alan Tygeson, son of Carolyn Tyge-sostudent body vice president and also a team member. Charles Fratto served as master of ceremonies at the assembly which Hillsdale GRANGER. A root beer float party will beheld tomorrow (Friday) at Hillsdale elementary for classes with the highest percentage of parents joining the PTA. Membership in the organization is nearing the 300 mark, with the drive ending tomorrow'. Memberships may still be obtained by interested parents or members of the community, noted PTA president Lori Bawden. Game activities included members of the National Guard parachuting onto the field with the ball, performances by dance club and Spinnakers, and fireworks. The royalty was introduced at the game, and again at the Homecoming dance held later Friday at the school. THS Pageant Is Scheduled Tonight TAYLORSVILLE. Homecoming activities are moving into high gear at Taylorsville high, with the queen pageant scheduled for 8 oclock tonight (Thursday) in the school commons area. Each class selected three of four girls to represent them in the pageant, which will follow a Miss America format. The girls will be Calvin Smith KEARNS. Take Time for Carnival Fun is the theme of the annual PTA carnival to be held from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) at Calvin Smith elementary. Families wishing to eat at the event will find a choice of sloppy joes, hot dogs, nachos, drinks and a bake sale. Students in fourth, fifth and sixth grade are participating in a cake decorating contest, with the cakes to be used in a cake walk. Games will include tic tac toe, fish poind, sucker tree, dart throw, pinball and ring toss. Children may also have their faces painted. Rides will include a ferris wheel, swing, rocket ride and pony rides. All classes have been invited to participate in a door decorating contest this week. The classroom doors will be judged and winners will receive carnival tickets as prizes. A prize booth will be set up where participants can redeem their tickets for prizes of their choice. Marlene Olsen is chairing the event with committee members including Myrna Smith, Becky Thomas, Marie Thompson, Carol Croft, Gladys Ward, Kathy Stott and Mary Lou Garn. judged in evening dress and in a question and answer session. The Homecoming dance will be held in the commons area from 8 to 11 p m. with music by Christopher. Foods available will include sloppy joes, 50 cents; nachos, 75 cents; pizza, 75 cents and drinks in cartons, 25 cents. Activities will include a cake walk, fish pond and games for all ages, including balloon darts and a soda can pyramid.
