Those were the words of speaker Dan Clark to members of the KHS student body at a flashlight rally Thursday. The flashlight rally was the opening activity for the annual Hello Week at KHS. In addition to hearing Mr. Clark speak about motivation and KHS enthusiasts attending the rally saw Impressive performances by the Chattes, cheerleaders and Mat Mates, while our own madrigals led everyone in the school song. The rally concluded with a fireworks display. Those in attendance seemed pleased with the rally and one student stated, This was a real enthusiasm builder and Im glad I braved the cold in order to come. Other Hello Week activities, including our assembly, football game and stomp, were as equally successful, and even though we suffered a 5 defeat to Cyprus, our football team still played a great game and made those in attendance excited and proud to be cheering for Kearns. Despite the fact that the Kearns spectators werent as numerous as they should have been, those who were there cheered enthusiastically for the team and, as one football player stated, it was the increased cheering that brought the team from 15-- 0 in the second half. The girls volleyball team played West Thursday in its first game. Although the team was defeated, the game was extremely close and the girls made a superior effort despite a lack of spectator support. When asked what impresses them most about KHS, sophomores Jenni Pehrson and Tom Berry agreed they are most impressed with the friendly, helpful students, while Melissa Rushton feels that the appearance and low number of vandalisms are quite impressive. Other sophomores believe that the choral program, teaching staff and AP programs are aspects to be proud of. In addition we can all be proud of our new sophomores at KHS.
