Show Layton Smiths Note Fiftieth Anniversary The fiftieth wedding anniversary of Layton U. and Mertice E. Smith will be celebrated with an open house on December 16th. Their daughter will host the event. Friends and relatives are being invited to call at Jordan North First Ward, 4634 West Harman Drive (3700 South), between the hours of 7 to 9 p.m. Mrs. Smith is the former Mertice Ethel Daugherty and the two were wed December 21, 1933 in the LDS chapel in Jacksonville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1948. Layton was born in Hinesville, Georgia on November 18, 1899 the son of Nathan Samuel and Sallie Lenora Stafford Smith. Mertice was born in Homerville, Georgia on December 7, 1900 the daughter of James William and Cor-en- a Smith Daugherty. Mr. Smith has been employed as a plumber, steam pipe fitter and worked many years with the civil service until his retirement in 1961 from Edward Air Force Base in California. Before living in Califor nia he worked on Mac Dill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida for 18 years. The honored couple moved to Utah in 1962 and are active members of the LDS church. Layton served in the Genealogical has been a home department, teacher and president of the High Priest Quorum. Mertice has taught in the Relief Society and Primary and has also been involved in Genealogical research for the past 35 years. Mr. and Mrs. Smith have worked on their family history and genealogy for years and were Temple Guides on Temple Square in St. George. Mertice is a housewife who loves to cook, sew, crochet, embroider and cans many varieties of fruits and vegetables. She loves flowers and has a beautiful garden every year. Mertice and Layton are the parents of one daughter Shearer Lee (Mrs. Max D.) Holman of West Valley. .3B west valiey view Thursday, in. She is a graduate of Cyprus high and Brigham Young University with an associate degree in travel and tourism . The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Frahm. He graduated from Springville high, Brigham Young University and the University of Maryland with a degree in German.
