Bette J. Corn-we- McKinney orial C. Mem- Award in recognition of distinguished service to her community and profession. The plaque will be given during the Presidents Banquet of NNAs annual conventI ion The McKinney Award has never before gone to a Utahn. Mrs. Cornwell is the current president of Utah Press Assn., only the second woman to head the group in its history. She has been in journalism more than three decades. A native of Ord, Neb., she is a graduate of St. Marys College and later studied at Creighton University. Prior to entering the newspaper field, she was associated with the n Institute of Affairs of the State Department in Washington, D.C. and was a high school teacher in Nebraska. She and her husband published the Stanton (Neb.) Register for seven years prior to coming to Murray in 1955 to purchase the Eagle. Pioneer Memorial Theatre kicked off its season last week with the award-winnin- g which will continue Barnum through Oct. 5 on Lees Main Stage. The musical was a winner of three Tony awards in 1980. It is staged in a glittery circus atmosphere and traces the illustrious life of P. T. She has been associated with the colorful musical since its Broadway debut. Barnum is not about the circus, but rather about the mans life, his humbugging of people. Marsha Miller is cast as Barnums devoted wife Charity. Fred Feldt, the shows choreographer, is cast as the ringmaster. Anne Stewart Mark plays Jenny Lind and Avery Sommers plays George Washingtons nurse, Joice Heth. Annie Heller is the dance captain and Don Johanson portrays Tom Thumb.
