Mr. Sperry went into counseling after obtaining a masters from Cal State, Los Angeles, spending eight years as a counselor before returning to his native state. He married Florence Boyd who was a college professor at Cal State. They had two children who died in infancy. Mrs. Sperry taught one year in special education in Granite District before ill health caused her retirement. We can do many things to upgrade education that do not cost big bucks: We can put to work the new methods learned through the productivity experimentation; we must increase the on task time in the classrooms and decrease the time; we must make the basics the primary objective in our education system; it is necessary to bring discipline back to the schools; we must upgrade the teaching of our teachers in the colleges; we have to foster the idea of parents getting interested and involved in the education of their children; and we have to derive a fair method of evaluating our teachers and, along with that, a method of fair merit pay.
