Show 9B W$T VALLEY VIEW Thursday, Mar. 17, 1983 For Adults moB Drawing Course Is Scheduled a dot GRANGER. An adult drawing class will be offered during spring term at Granger high Community school. Classes will begin March 28 and run for nine weeks from 7 to 9 p.m. under the direction of Bona Dalton. The class is listed as both drawing, beginning, and as basic drawsaid the teacher. ing, Unlike many art classes, this one does not assume you already know how to draw before you sign up, she added. The class will employ the methods developed by Betty Edwards for pro- moting right hemisphere brain activity when learning to draw, said Mrs. Dalton. Most people who feel they cannot draw have simply been approaching it incorrectly, using the left side of the brain, she explained. It is now well documented that the right brain hemisphere is the one specialized for creative activities, yet the logical left brain hemisphere almost always dominates, thus discouraging right brain activity such as drawing, she said. After the simple exercises are mastered, students will learn basics of portraiture and figure drawing, often the most difficult for beginners, she said, respective and shading will also be taught. At the completion of the class, students will be ready to go on and take classes such as water color or oil painting, in which basic drawing ability is essential, said the teacher.
