Members of American Legion post 132 will find a full schedule of activities on the March calen- Editor: This letter comes to clarify a false impression which you have created by your inaccurate reporting in the Green Sheet of Feb. 18 on the article concerning the walls at Cyprus high. I love your paper, as it is the watchdog of the community, but 1 would like to see it remain as accurate as in the past. I do not believe a new high school should be built on an alternate site at the expense of Cyprus high. I stated at the school board meeting of Feb 16 that: dar. steak dinner will be served at 6:30 tomorrow and every Friday, with steak, baked potato and garlic bread costing $5.50. The District 8 queen contest will be held Wednesday at Post 71 at 7 p.m. A Legion A The district ought to rebuild Cyprus right, not to do a partial job. They intend to tear everything down that is old except the swimming pool and the old gym. I feel that these should also be replaced. I asked if the district could find out how much more it would cost to replace them at the same time as the other rebuilding. Since the old gym now has cracks in it and the ceiling in the swimming pool has been falling, this should be considered. If the district cant rebuild them to at least put steel reinforcements in the gym, which it now lacks, and at least remodel the pool. If the citizens think that the Granite District is coming back in five or 10 years to rebuild the pool or gym, they are wrong. That what Cyprus gets now is all Cyprus is going to get so we ought to have it done right the first time. This is because the district is already behind schedule on two elementary schools and a junior high. When you are finished with Cyprus, we will have a completely updated modern high school, comparable to any in the district. I also presented 10 pages of petitions which had been gathered in two days on keeping the ice rink for the students and communities use. This was done before the district told us they had changed their minds on taking the icerink. If I might add at this time, I feel a lot of these problems with shortages of classrooms on the west side could have been avoided. If the district would have done proper planning and projections in the first place, they would have never built Cottonwood high school. This school holds up to 2,400 students, but has a present enrollment of around 1,300 students. The district should have built Taylorsville high school at that time. Since the district knew Cyprus high would reach its life expectancy by 1968, 50 years since it was built, they would have been planning on where to house these students while they were rebuilding. Instead, they did piecemeal construction on to Cyprus as emergencies arose. Hunter high school could have been built and completed in 1981 instead of Taylorsville. Cyprus students would have been able to go there while Cyprus was being completely rebuilt, instead of being forced into it now by an act of nature. Upon completion of rebuilding Cyprus, the students could have been split between the two schools, Cyprus and Hunter high. The district would still have the same number of high schools it now has and we would have our Hunter high school, which is probably 10 years in the future. There wouldnt be a Granite district policy to bus students in Cyprus boundaries to Central junior high in the fall of 1982 and on to Granite LIMITED Utah-Idah- GRANGER.
