Show g Thursday, Mar. WEST VALLEY VIEW On City Streets GRANGER. Concern for the safety of children walking to and from school is being expressed by members of the Pioneer elementary PTA. Etsuko Freeman, president of the organization, said that within a ' radius there are and not one street with complete sidewalks. There are also open irrigation ditches and no street lights, which increases the hazards, she said. 10 one-mil- e schools affected are Pioneer, Granger high, Granger elementary, West Lake junior high, Hillsdale, Stansbury, Rolling Meadows, Truman, Robert Frost and Valley junior high, Mrs. Freeman said. Children walk in the middle of the street when the snow piles up and that presents additional problems to drivers as well as to the students, she remarked. The streets causing the the most concern to PTA officers are 3200 West, from 3100 to 4700 South; 3600 West, from 3100 South to 4100 South, and Lancer Way, from Granger high to Valley Fair Mall, she said. The street lighting in front of the high school is also a cause for concern, said Mrs. Freeman. It is very bad at night when cars park on both sides of the street during Community School sessions, she said, presenting a real danger for adults as well as children. PTA officers from Pioneer collected 528 names on a petition from their own school area, pointing out the need for safer sidewalks, and included a map showing the location of each school and its boundaries, she said. The petition has been given to the West Valley City steering committee for consideration. The PTA will continue to express concern and to work for safer conditions for the children. in-ves- regarding specific classes, fees, times, etc. may call Richard Schmeling, By Police meeting site tonight (Thursday) for residents of District 3, which encompasses the area from 2100 to 3500 South between and 4800 West. He cited several reasons for the poor turnout, including a wedding involving a family member of a prominent figure in the area. Despite the small turnout, Janson said residents joined all but one of six committees looking into various aspects of the master plan and pledged to make efforts to convince other residents to participate. Only the energy committee did not have community membership, he said. Discussion at the initial meeting focused on the street circulation system in the Redwood area, existing zoning compared to the old master plan, the status of the proposed youth detention center and West Valley Highway, and the progress of the Jordan River Parkway, Janson said. junior high will be the WEST VALLEY.
