Rains soaking Eastern states By The Associated Press Rain soaked Virginia and Tennessee early today, while fog blanketed the Midwest and clouds covered the Northwest. Temperatures before daybreak ranged from 91 degrees in Las Vegas and Thermal, Calif., to 23 in Houlton, Maine. More than 3 inchesofrain fell overnight in northern Missouri, closing some highways and roads. Severe thunderstorms andup to 2 inches of rain were possible today in Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky. Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms also were expected to strike from the Carolinas to Texas and from Colorado to South Dakota. Southern Florida anticipated thunderstorms. Near to just-below normal temperatures and dry weather were forecast for New England. Rain and higher elevation snow was possible in Washington, Oregon, Montana and North Dakota. More than 2 inches of snow were possible in the Washington Cascades and the Montana Rockies. Showers and thunderstorms were forecast in Nevada and Wyoming, while the rest of the West expected warm, dry weather. Temperatures should climb into the 50s and 60s in New England and mid-Atlantic states; 80s and 90s in the Southeast and Florida; 60s in the Midwest and northern Plains; 70s in the central Plains andthe Rockies; 50s and 60sin the Pacific Northwest and 80s in the South. Temperatures in the Southwest could climb into the 90s and 100s.
