The glare of the sun's bright light T WANT 7D AVOID FIGHTING NASTY MCNARE BUT I DON'T WANT TO LOSE FACE. keeps us from seeing stars during the day. The particles that make up the earth's atmosphere scatter and reflect the sun’s light, so the whole sky is too bright for any stars to be seen. The earth's ~tmosphere has another effect when it comes to howwesee the stars. It makes them twinkle. The light frorn the stars passes through the earth's atmosphere before reaching your eyes. Within the atmosphere, at analtitude of from 30,000 to 45,000 feet, is a layer of air called the twinkling layer. As the light from a star passes through the twinkling layer, the light shifts and changes continuously and seems unsteady. That is, the star twinkles. Scientists do not know what causes the starlight’s path to changeandshift But many believe differences in temperature and the presenceof water vapor in the twinkling layer may be responsible for the stars’ twinkle Venusand the other planets you can see are too close to the earth to be mere points of light in the sky.
