Show TVrWT WEEKLY REFLEX DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, JANUARY 25, 1979 W V1 O' mm"- S' vX W ljr- By DAVE WIGHAM CLEARFIELD - For those Clearfield faithfuls who were wondering what their club would do following a loss rest assured that it was only a temporary thing. AFTER SUFFERING their first loss of the year to rival Layton the Falcons came out fighting mad last week and handed a very good Roy club an easy setback. This Friday the Falcons traveled up north to battle Bonneville as the region wars go into round two of action. In their first outing the Clearfield team did just about anything they wanted in handing the Lakers a loss. has made personnel changes since that loss but the Lakers are still too young and inexperienced to stay with jthe Falcons. Each club faces a Tuesday encounter with Clearfield at Weber and the Lakers hosting Viewmont. One problem the Falcons might encounter is a mental letdown against the Lakers especially if they should beat the Weber squad on Tuesday. Bonneville isnt in the same class as Clearfield but in this league you just cant take anyone lightly, especially on the Laker floor. BONNEVILLE some C A are currently - BOUNTIFUL Weber High hasnt forgotten Friday, Dec. 15. That was the day that the Warriors, who were billed as the best basketball club in Ifi d. Smells like a win to while the Bonneville Warriors host a tough Clear- si.,. , THE OTHER Falcon members know what it takes for them to win the game, get the ball inside to their two main people. Guards Mark Reid and Larry Read run the club well and Mark Wayment is a good forward. These three have no regrets about the two main scorers, jtist as long as the club wins, theyre Weber relies heavily on their inside game where Mark Montgomery, Brad Hall and Bryce Thorpe operate. These three accounted for 44 points last week and usually carry the bulk of the scoring for their OBSERVERS at the first meeting of these two indicated that the Warriors stood around too much and that the Vikes simply outran them. Viewmont does have a lot of speed, which the Weber team doesnt, which means control of the boards is essential. If the Viking big people, Doug Day, Kelly Downs and Paul Hansen can get the boards and the outlet to their guards then the Warriors will be looking at a long night of Viking layups. But if the Warrior big people get the boards then they can control the tempo of the game and slow down the running of Viewmont. ONE INTERESTING observation about this matchup though is that the Warriors have more to worry about than just the Vike guards. If the fast break isnt available then the Vikes set up the i Jp, r inside people can score. Weber is a question mark at the guard spots, but dont think for one second that Day, Downs or Hansen cant put points up in a hurry. Downs is probably one of the best shooting forwards in the league and Day seems to be in the right spot for the rebounds and criODles. VIEWMONT surprised a few people in the first go- -' teams round, strange things have V' a, " first the Vikes go-rou- seems to favor them by playing at home. But the home floor hasnt been that good for the Vikes. Weber is looking for the league title, as are the Vikes. They feel they were upset by the Vikes and that they have a better team. Maybe a' second Viking win would convince them of their error. 166 S. Main, Layton Farm (next door Layton 766-206- Falcons. BRAD THACKER and Jim Miller the two extremely quick guards for the Vikings have been running wild on the court these days. Both poured in 21 points last week in the Sky View win and both happy.
