This involved boring holes to a depth of five feet to find the type and texture of the soil and depth to the underground water. This information made it possible to determine direction water was moving and quantitiy of water to be expected. A DRAIN line was planned (SCD). THE LAND was staked out on a 66-fogrid for land leveling. A topographic survey was made by Ted Rich, SCS He was cited for the period of June of 1976 to February 1979. He played a roll in the modernization of the Hill Engineering Test Facility which is used for the Minuteman ICBM program. engineering technician, and from this survey a land leveling plan was developed. Kurt approved a plan with of a foot fall per 100 feet in the direction of irrigation and no side slope. Ditches to be concrete-linewere surveyed and laid out the same time the land leveling survey was made. A pad approximately one-fowide is high and ten-ferequired for concrete ditches. Soil for the ditch pad was obtained from the land being four-tent- and located to effectively lower the water table on the land. The drain lines were laid out and installed on a d planned grade about five and feet below the soil surface. The drain lines installed were corrugated plastic tubing with perforations to allow infiltration of the water. one-ha- AN ACCOMPANYING lf About terprises, a construction company specializing in KURT AND Wiley own a scraper for land leveling so they started moving earth and drainage. ALL these WHEN improvements were complet- building the ditch pads as soon as design work was completed. When the ditch pads were completed ' to grade, Kurt continued on the land leveling while Bingham Construction plowed and poured the concrete ditches.
