Record Increases Go To Teachers ed COS bachelor-d- egree teachers in the Davis School District were boosted by an average of $1,640. or 12.1 percent this year. In addition, most teachers not at the top of the salary scale also received an annual experience increment averaging another $577. Thus the total increase for a teacher 1 1 who had not reached the top step averaged about $2,217, or 16.3 percent during the 1980-8school year. THESE W ERE some of the facts reported by Utah Found1 180-18- ation the private research their regular organization, annual analysis of teacher salaries in Utah. The study notes that total insalary increases (schedule increases plus increment creases) averaged $2,173 or 16.7 percent throughout the state and ranged from 14.2 percent in Grand County School in -, District to 29.5 percent in Emery County School District. The Emery increase, however. included a special salary supplement of between $2,855 and $2,150. which was pro- vided from voted leeway funds. This salary supplement was furnished to Emery School personnel in order to attract and retain teachers in this energy-ric- rapidly-growin- h county. THE STARTING salary for a teacher with a bachelors de- District gree in Davis School this year is $ ,963. The salary schedules include regular increases for experience and 1 1 added academic training. Thus, experienced teachers with a masters degree would receive up to $21952 in the Davis District. Foundation analysts point out that the average starting salary in Utah this year is $1 1,736, and the average max imum salary for a teacher with a masters degree is $20,402. Beginning salaries in Utah for a teacher with a bachelor's degree range from $ .273 in Iron District to $13,625 in Emery District. Maximum salaries for a teacher with a masters degree vary from $17,685 in the Piute District to $22,341 in Murray School District. ALL OF the above salary amounts are for approximately 5 teaching days or about nine months of actual service. Teachers with special duties and those who teach summer school, of course, would receive added compensation for such service. According to the Foundation. a teacher with a bach- , elor's degree who began teaching in the Davis School District during the 1975-7- 6 school year receoved $8,075. Today, that same teacher with five years of experience would receive $14,502, which represents an increase of $6,417 or 79.6 percent for the five-yeperiod. Approximately $4,722 of that increase represents changes in the salary schedules and $1,705 represents annual salary step increments. STATEWIDE, total salary increases (schedule plus increments) for a teacher who began a Utah teaching career five years ago was $6,381, or 79.9 percent. Still additional amounts would be received by teachers who acquired more academic teaining during this period. Utah school districts encourage teachers to seek added academic training by providing additional compensation and more step advances for teachers who obtain training beyond the bachelor's de- gree. Order picking, DEADLINE sroom teachers in Utah are slightly higher than the Mountain States average when an adjustment is made for a special retirement contribution made in Utah, but not in most of the other states. According to National Education Association estimates, the average salary for classroom teachers in the Mountain States was $15,264. The average salary in Utah (after the special retirement contribution adjustment) was approximately $15,713, or about 2.9 percent more than the Mountain States average. Because of the very large salary adjustment made in Utah this year, the Foundation report observes that it is likely that the Utah advantage over the Mountain States may be even greater in 1980-8- R38 1 OLD POST FARMS S 25 ACRE parcels excellent west outdoor nursery manager PICTURE I4 CWfa C A 5 ACRES West Layton $7 500 per eere Easy term Jett Smm 295 2642.
