MIKE HANSEN, who has been highly successful in building the wrestling program at THE DOCTOR and the sportswritercan predict all they want, but it still boils down to the 'waiting game. But some facts about Clearfield wrestling give some indication to how Scott Tennis and . his team wil fare in n 82-83- 82-8- ' IN HANSENS seven previous years of leading Lancer wrestling, only one of those years has produced a losing record. Besides that lone year, Layton wrestling hasnt known slim times. ' Hansens eighth year looks to be fairly promising with several wrestlers back from last season's squad who saw good amounts of action. BUT LAYTONS scene is much the same as other schools in the area, which is the wait and see story. Even though the Lancers have some quality kids back, there are several spots that big questions still arise. Donny Zamora returns for his final season of action at the 98 pound position. Last season he placed second in region action to Clearfields Steve Uliberri. His attitude about the new season appears top notch and if things go his way he might have a good shot at both the region title and the state title. THERE WILL be a charge for the tournament which Hansen says will be finalized this week. A $6 admission fee will allow an adult to get a pass for both days of wrestling. Falcon Football Butler Demonstrates Greatest Improvement By KEITH DUNCAN WITH A LITTLE more confidence and a little ability. Rich Gallegoes returns from' Layton at the 132 pound spot. Rich had exciting wins over both Davis and Clearfield last season and hopes to repeat those kind of efforts. This week the Lancers will go with sophomore Brent Higgs at 138 who beat out senior Eric Huntsman for that spot. There is expected to be quite a war at that weight before the season comes to an end. Fresh out of football are the next two weights in 155 pounder Tracy Jones and 167 pounder Blaine Tracy. Both are very excited about the new year and what it can bring. things that might take place in the future, said Butler. Hancock is quite sure that Butler will get a chance to play more football on the college level. Journal Sports as a sophomore he placed second in last year's state championship at 118. Hansen says Hyde is competitive and should give the Lancers a little more to contend with. PetrolT is a battler too. Hell give anyone a battle who decides to take him on at 126. He comes back this season after taking second in region last year and going to the state meet. Hansen says Petroff isnt one to quit, that hell battle all the way to the end. RUSS MURDOCK will tackle the 145 pound position along with Steve Lewis. At 112 it appears that Rodney Rientjes has won the spot. He represented the Lancers in the state meet last year as a sophomore. "Rodney is a fun wrestler to watch, said Hansen. AT 118 THE Lancers will look to Eric Hyde for leadership, at least this week. Mike Petroff will probably come down to 118 before the season gets too far along and that leaves Hyde battling Rientjes for the 112 spot.
