Ken May said that he has never before had the pleasure with a group of individuals as dedicated or personally motivated as exists at SUFCo. County Budget hearing This is the time of year that county budgets are aired, and public hearings are held for the public to be informed. Small grain production in Utah is up this year Production of winter wheat, spring wheat, barley, and alfalfa are up, while oats and down, according to the Utah Agricultural Statistics Service. Generally, yields are higher than the 1992 level. In Utah, 1993 winter wheat production, at 6 million bushels, is up 16 percent from 1992. .Yield at 39 bushels per acre, is 1 bushel per acre less than last year, but up 3 bushels per acre from 1991. Growers harvested 155,000 acres, up 25,000 acres from 1992. Production of spring wheat from the 25 ,000 acres harvested is forecast at 1.2 million bushels, up 16 percent from last year. The 49 bushel per acre yield is up 1 bushel per acre from 1992. Barley production, at 9.4 million bushels, is up 4 percent from last year. The yield is up 7 bushels from 1992 to 85 bushels per acre. Harvested acres are down 5.000 acres over 1992 to 110,000 acres. Production of oats for grain is down 3 percent from last year to 1 million bushel. Growers harvested 13.000 acres at an average yield of 78 bushels per acre. Oat acres harvested were down 2,000 acres from 1991 Alfalfa hay production at 2.1 million tons, is up 7 percent from 1992. The average yield, of 4.2 tons per acre, is 2 higher than last year. Harvested acres at 500,000 are 10.000 acres above 1992. ' Most counties sharing in Utah's prosperity sons for this growth are different. A large share of Grand County's job increase was temporary jobs associated with temporary jobs associated with movie production. San Juans new jobs are primarily in the construction and transportation industries and are involved with cleaning up old uranium mill tailings. Summit county continues to be stand out in economic activity due primarily to developments in and around Park City. Uintah and Duchesne counties are troubled by high unemployment. Sanpete, Kane, Wayne and Morgan counties have similar problems. Economic indicators show With Utahs unemployment rate again falling below 4 percent and its nonfarm job growth at a high, most of Utah's counties appear to be faring well also. Salt Lake County's growth, at nearly 19,000 jobs in 12 months, of all the comprised about one-hanew jobs created in the state. In addition. Salt Lakes unemployment rate ranks among the lowest st in the State. Utah County, the labor market is perhaps even better off -- - the unemployment level is the same.but job growth isslightly faster. Noteworthy, but less economically sound is the rapid nonfarm job growth of Grand and San Juan counties.
