Show Exclusive Preview 1992 Domestic Cars letters ‘Great,’ or an insult to the old? Tt was refreshing to see a positive portrayal ofaging in a widely read, popular publication such as yours (“90 in the 90s,” Aug. 30-Sept. 1). Positive publicity will go a long way toward dispelling myths and negative stereotypes aboutaging. Thanks for the greatstory. DIANNE MYERS Chambersburg, Pa. Your report on Noel Johnson, age 92, left out a couple offacts. Noelis articulate, well-dressed, mannerly and vir- ile. He also is the most outrageous master offlirtation one would ever meet. Menhalf his age could use a few lessons from this gentleman. I know, because I am halfhis age! Noelis a joy. KATHY CARROLL Poway, Calif. You lie. The old people you featured are not “staying young forever.” They are beingactive. Ageism insults the old and terrorizes the middle-aged. “Old” is not a four-letter word. As America turns gray, it’s incumbent on us to re- store the self-worth ofall people who are fortunate enough to live a long time. He left his job at the Peach Pit to go to workat the Beverly Hills Beach Club, where he could earn the money he needed to buy his vintage Mustang. I advise you to get your facts straight before you make fun of Hollywood in the future. JESSICA GAGNE Auburn, Maine Sep into Wal-Mart and walk away withthe latest fashions in leather pumps ond flats. Thank you for your article on the International Mountain Biking Association’s work to educate all back-country bikers in the responsible use of mountain bicycles (“Cyclists: Head for the hills,” Sept. 6-8). As a historical note, I did not found the IMBA, as your story states. It was founded by representatives ofseveral California mountainbike clubs that in 1988 recognized the need to work together to preserve the opportunities for mountain bicycling.
