First of all, saving money is why I got started couponing in the first place. I soon learned that I was spending a great deal of time shopping to find the least expensive price for an item that I had a coupon for. My memory being what it is, I found I was jotting down prices, name brands, sizes, etc. while I was in the store. I not only had coupons but sale pages for several stores from newspapers with me, trying to fumble through all of this mess while pushing a grocery cart. This was not going to work! It was too time consuming and frustrating and that first day I gave up in dispair, just bought what I had to have and went home. Was it worth all the effort? Was there a way to shop wisely and efficiently without all that confusion? I knew I wouldnt be satisfied until I gave it at least one good try. - Sitting at my kitchen table (I do my best work there) I made a list of things involved in shopping. It was a fairly long list at first (later some of the items were combined or eliminated), but it gave me a clearer picture of what I was up against. The list included, coupons, prices, JANE CARPENTER With a little adjustment the original list was clarified by (1) the date purchased was not filled in in the original list because I had no way of telling when I had bought the items. This would be filled in when the item was purchased again and the current price recorded if there was any change. Remember this was my original list and I knew there would be adjustments to make. Next was (2) Item Name. I listed these in generalities like Paper Towels. Under paper towels each on a separate line I listed paper towels by brand name, one or two roll packages, anything that made them different. (3) the price for each kind of towel was listed under column three. This gave me a clear comparison of prices. Next I looked through the weeks bargain list for each store and entered the sale prices for each item under column (4). Now I didnt have to take I had the store specials lists with me the prices right on my list. Next I entered the amount of coupons I had for each item under column (5). I made up a general grocery list, then divided it into a list for each store. Then all I had to do was pull the coupons, paper clip them to the applicable store list and I was on my way. By the way, each grocery list was in the order the items appeared in each individual store, making for still more ease in shopping. All I had to do when I got home was update the master lists in my notebook and I was ready for next weeks shopping. Naturally, each shopper will want to adapt this to her own shopping habits, but it resolved my three objectives. Id be very interested in hearing how it works for you and if it was a help.
