Show If Camera Repairman Gets Bronze Star 36 Years Late An aircraft reconnaissance camera Hill recently was presented the Bronze Star for actions during World War II. John H. Acock received the medal 36 years after his courage under fire and devotion to duty earned the HILL AFB repairman at award. On Sept. 11, 1944, a company of infantry was pinned down by enemy machine gun fire near Scarpia, Italy. The forward observer, then Technician Fifth Grade Acock, was called forward to transmit the position of the enemy guns. He went forward under bursts of fire from enemy guns and assisted in setting up the units radio, Although the enemy had direct observation on his position and he was constantly exposed to their fire, Acock stayed at the post until the enemy guns were cjiDG'u JOHN II. But Acock may not have ever received his medal if his son hadnt noticed that the letter order for the Bronze Star hanging on the wall in his fathers house was not accompanied by the medal. Maj. John Acock Jr., an executive officer for a helicopter maintenance battalion with the 101st Airborne Division stationed at Ft.
