According to the Foundation report, the 1981 Legislature enacted a law which substitutes state exemption provisions for the more liberal federal provisions in bankruptcy cases. The new state law, which went into effect on May 12, 1981, has resulted in a dramatic drop-of- f in bankruptcy filings. In June, for example, there were 50 percent fewer filings than the total for May. In July there were 54 percent fewer filings than in May and 7 percent fewer than in June. Foundation analysts hasten to point out, however, that while the new Utah law has moderated the growth in held at Layton Hills Mall on Oct. 16 and 17. The event is the one time each year that community organizations are allowed on the mall to raise funds and distribute information about legitimate charities and services. To qualify, each group must be totally nonprofit and must use the proceeds as a donation to a recognized charity or service. For example, a hospital auxiliary may raise funds for the hospital or a church group may use this opportunity to raise funds for a social service organization. The possibilities are endless, but no group or person will be allowed to sell items purely for personal financial gain. Each group will be carefully screened to fit the qualifications. The mall officers are alerting all groups in the area at this early date to give them time to prepare handmade items and crafts for sale. The major restriction on items to be sold is that absolutely no food itoms will bo accepted. Bake and drink sales are strongly prohibited for health reasons and because of direct competition with mall services. Any other item currently being sold on the mall by a rent paying tenant will also not be allowed in the bazaar. when your feet hurt, you hurt all over.
