No, Only Alarm By PHIL KIRKWOOD Raviaw Staff I remember it as a pleasant fall Saturday afternoon. My roommates and I were getting dressed up to attend a wedding reception for a mutual friend whom we hadnt seen in six years. He lived in Atlanta, but since he had never been to Salt Lake City before, he decided to e lived in have the ceremony there. His St. Louis and said she wouldnt come unless the ceremony started precisely at 4 p.m. It was shortly before 2 p.m. when I discovered I didnt have any clean dress shirts. I had the pants, the shoes, socks, a jacket and tie, but no clean dress shirt. I asked my roommates if they had a spare, but they were in the same there wasnt a clean shirt in the trouble wife-to-b- house. Should we risk the embarrassment of wearing a soiled dress shirt to our friends wedding? Could we cover up by wearing a clean bowling shirt instead? We began to panic. HEADACHE said that because of a parade on Main Street wed have to travel one block east for every three blocks we went north. We began zigzagging through town as best we could, but it was slow because the traffic lights kept turning red just before we reached an intersection. They wouldnt even show yellow theyd always go directly from red to green. We had waited nearly 10 minutes at the first light when a city road worker wearing blue He We asked the next door neighbor, a retired psychologist, if we could borrow any of his dress shirts. He was willing, but each of his shirts were hunter orange with blue trim and ruffled collars all 39 of them. We raced back to our house to phone the nearest dry cleaners. The first was closed. So was the second and third and fourth. There didnt seem to be one dry cleaner open in the valley. It was about 2:45 when we finally tracked down an open cleaner located by the airport. We asked him if he could clean and press three dress shirts in 20 minutes while we waited. He said he could, but that wed have to purchase three Eastern table tennis paddles as part of the package. He added that he didnt believe in starch and that hed prefer if we entered his parking lot from the north. Much relieved, we piled into my car and set out for the cleaners. When we got to the downtown area, a policeman pulled us over and said we couldnt continue straight through. moon boots walked up and told us our car had to be in the far left lane in order for the light to change to green. The meeting was emotionally charged involving many charges and countercharges. The elements present at that meeting I assume make interesting reading which would account for your page one coverage. I am writing to sincerely thank you and your staff for factually relating what happened at that meeting. Im not sure I agree with your placement of the article on page one and possibly the light in which I was placed, but thats your right and I respect it. The important thing was that you were factual and fair with a story which could have been sensationalized and misrepresented. Since you do not publish a byline, Im not sure who the reporter was, so would you kindly relate to that person my appreciation and thanks for being treated fairly. Unfortunately your competition the Clipper failed to follow a similar course (ref. their article on the same subject published 9981). You have my support in your efforts to break into the CentervilleBountiful market. Thank you again. Sincerely, Review Editor: As City Recorder of Woods Cross City and Executive Secretary of the South Davis Fire District, I am keenly aware of the news in our local papers concerning our communities, and especially in the South Davis area. I want to say that my reading of your first issue for the South Davis area of the Lakeside Review was most stimulating. I have not read better news and articles in any of the areas newspapers including the weekly that has been in our area for years. Last evening, Mr. Ron Knowlton attended our City Council meeting where I take the minutes. He is the first reporter to spend the entire evening with us as well as to stay a moment after to make sure he had his information factual and correct. He exhibited real professionalism. I wish you the best of luck and hope that the citizens of the South Davis area will support your advertisers so that you can continue to bring this fine publication into our homes. For two years we have tried to get Lay-to- n City and Mayor Shields to clean the city lot on Hill Field Road just south of the store, but to no avail. 7-- The weeds are a fire hazard and a haven for grasshoppers. The junk stored on the lot, broken sewer pipe and broken an equipment makes ideal home for stray cats, skunks, mice, etc.. The city beautification chairman should have pictures of this mess. The city fathers should clean up their own lots and set an example before they start trying to enforce an ordinance on anyone else. Edna Orrell Layton C.U-- E.
