The bounce happened at 11:35 a.m. on April 7. A bounce is similar to a small earthquake and sometime occurs when extra seismic subsidence settles in behind the longwall machine. This in turn causes extra energy to be stored in the mountain, and creates small earthquakes inside the mines. This is a common occurrence in the underground mining indust- those experiences vwth his family and friends. From the oldest to the youngest, we all enjoy Grandpa Leos stories of days gone by and his great words of wisdom he gives to us. Leo has one Chris son, (Sunny) Nielsen, three step-childre- n, Kathleen (Vernell) Rowley, Dale Davis, and Dixie (Russ) Swasey. He has 13 grandkids and 24 great- grandkids. As part of this celebration Leo Nielsen Leo Nielsen and his family will be celebrating his 90 years of youth on April 15, 2000. Leo was born at Winter Quarters on April 15, 1910. He was born April 15, 1930 in Price, to Arthur Noble and Mary PROVO Ellen Hobbs Wallace. Lons grandfathers, George B. Wallace and George B. Hobbs, were some of the first pioneers who settled in Utah. Lon married Lynnette Carr in Helperon Aug. 6, 1960. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti temple. He attended schools in Price, and Rock Springs, Wyo. from 1942 to 1948. He attended the University of Denver. His studies in architecture were interrupted by the outbreak of the Korean War. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served in Texas, California, Japan, and Korea. After being discharged from the service, Lon attended Brigham Young University and then transferred to the University of Utah. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1957 and a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1960 from the University of Utah. He later attended courses at Texas A&M toward an advanced degree in construction technology. . He was associated w ith an architectural firm in Provo for 16 years. In 1972, he was hired as the first teacher in the Construction Management Program at BYU. He became an Assistant Professor at BYU. He was especially proud of his students and was pleased that almost all of them quickly found good jobs in the construction industry after graduating. He taught at BYU Hawaii for three years. He returned to Provo and worked as the Senior Construction Supervisor for the BYU physical plant until he retired in 1991. He was a member of the Provo Jaycees and the Provo Elks Lodge Number 848. Center Street, Provo, Tuesday, April 11, 2000, from 6 to 8.00 p m. and at the chapel one hour prior to the funeral services. He w'as born Aug. 11, 1912 in Leadville, Colo, to Matt and Mary TIME Kochevar Zakrysek. On April 14, 1945 he married Mary Lipersick of Rockvale, Colo. In 1915 his father died and the 3 family moved to Canon City, Colo., where Matt attended public schools and graduated from the eighth grade. After his schooling Matt farmed until he was 18 and then began his lifelong career as a coal miner at the Wolf Creek Mines.
