Show Youth encouraged Castle Valley News Briefs: to participate in Youth Service Day Democratic convention and Dinner From Argentina to Senegal, to Russia, to the United Stages, and even in Emery County, thousands of youth will join The Emery County Democratic Parry will be hosting their annual County Convention and Dinner this Friday, April 14, beginning at 6:30 p nt. at the Castle Dale Senior Citizens Center (200 E 90 N). All interested people are encouraged to come enjoy a ham, beef, turkey dinner, and meet and hear from state and local party officials. Bill Orton, Candidate for Governor and Scott Howell, Candidate for Senator, will be speaking to us. Turnout by residents was tremendous, and the organizations participating in the fair were well pleased. As part of the services to participants the medical center offered free blood pressure checks, hearing tests, eye tests, cholesterol screening, use of the physical therapy equipment, blood sugar tests, and much more. The Emery County Sheriffs Department, along with the Utah Safe Kids Coalition, offered free car seat safety checks and fingerprinted and photographed children for identification cards. Balloons, refreshments and tons of information were given to participants. The American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Domestic Violence Coalition, RSVR Head Start, Emery County Chamber of Commerce, Four Comers Mental Health, Eastern Utah Health Services, and other organizations and private businesses were represented at the fair. (Continued on page 7A) Brent Arnold ends his 31 year Educational Career with the Emery County School Dist. V PATSY STODDARD Staff reporter By Mr. Arnold i$ approaching retirement after 31 years in the Emery County School District. Brent ArnoM was born in 'POOR COPY Standardville, and raised in Cleveland. Gomer and Ruth Arnold were his parents. He went to school in Emery County and graduated from North Emery High School in 1961. Mr. Arnold's father, Gomer, taught in the Emery District for 36 years. Brent knew he wanted to become a teacher from a young age. Mr. Arnold married JoAnn Huff of Huntington in 1961. They are the parents of four grown sons, Corey (Rochelle) an electrical engineer from Tempe, Arizona, Troy (Allison) a Gallup Poll Supervisor from Lincoln, Nebraska, Devin (Christy) a chemical engineer from Boise, Idaho, and Kray (Vicky) who works for a pharmaceutical firm in Scottsdale, Arizona. They have nine grandchildren. Mr. Arnold was offered a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he turned it down to attend ccl-re. Mr. Arnold attended the University of Utah on a Baseball Scholarship. His team won the WAC championship two of the four years he played for the Utes. He was a pitcher for the team and was named to the Baseball Team in his Senior yean In 1965, he graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He received his Master of Education Degree from BYU in 1984. He served as the Bishop of Castle Dale 2nd Ward from 1978-86- . Mr. Arnold served as Stake President of the Castle Dale Stake from 1987-96- . He also served on the Utah High School Activities Associations Board of Trustees for five years and the Executive Committee for four years. Mr. Arnold was a member of the Utah Association of Secondary Schools Legislative Council for four years. H began his teaching career in the County Chapter will be sponsoring the Signature event Relay for Life which will be July 7 and 8, at the Emery High School track. Relay for Life is more than a fund . raiser-- it is a celebration of life, hope and remembrance for those who have fought and continue to fight cancer.
