Show Visit us on the World Wide Web Montell and Kathryn Seely are Grand Marshals Montell and Kathryn Seely will serve as this years Grand Marshals of the Emery County Fair. Montell was bom February 5, 1934 in Castle Dale to Karl A. Seely and Cora Guymon, on his Mothers 30th Birthday. He was the fourth of sue children. His paternal grandparents, Justus W. Seely and Anna Eliza Reynolds, were among the first settlers in Castle Dale. His maternal grandparents, E. Montell Guymon for whom he was named and Minerva Mackelprang, were early settlers in Huntington. Montell went to school at Castle Dale Elementary, and South Emery High in Ferron, where he was an' athlete and studentbody president. He served an LDS mission in the Central Atlantic States in 1954-5Kathryn Pincock, a daughter of Mark L Pincock and LaRee Smith, was bom March 15, 1941 in Rexburg, Idaho, the third of four children. 6. Kathryn attended schools in Caldwell, Idaho, and two years at Ricks College before enrolling at BYU. She met Montell at a dance at BYU. Montell and his sister, Dorothy, were members of the first BYU Ballroom Dance Team, directed by Ben DeHoyos. Kathryn and Montell were married storing historic old buildings, such as August 27,1963 in the Idaho Falls LDS the Bicknell Gristmill (built in 1890) Temple. Both graduated from BYU in and the old Emery church (built in May 1965, Montell with a degree in 1900). Montell was chairman of the commitAnimal Science; and Kathryn, in Enin tee that produced the centennial book, glish. Rex Funk provided each Commissioner and staff member with a booklet describing Emery County Planning for 2000. The booklet contained maps, photos of problem areas and descriptions of the problems along State Road 10. Butch Wilcox, Elmo Mayor told the Commission, he would like to put up neighborhood watch signs on the State road just outside Elmo. In the past these signs have been removed by State r 1 i continued on page 2A 1 f Larry Davis is new principal atCVJH Larry Davis is originally from St. Anthony, Idaho. He was raised on a potato and dairy farm. He is the son of Herb and Maxine Davis now of Salt Lake. The family farm was later destroyed in the Teton Dam disaster. Larry graduated from South Fremont High, where he worked on the school paper and yearbook. He spent the next four years at Utah State in Logan. Larry majored in prelaw but decided by the end of his Freshman year, that he didn't find it that appealing. His English classes were the most interesting and rewarding, so he switched to English as his major, with a minor in j 2. Transportation issues discussed with state officials IIIBLlLmi'Jir'-kWJ- Castle Valley News Briefs: ; j .The Utah Transportation Commission Meeting was held in Castle Dale this month on July 27 in the County Commission Chambers. Glenn Brown called the meeting to order and turned it over to Bevan Wilson former Emery County Commissioner. Bevan Wilson explained that the commission came to Emery County to discuss state highways in the surrounding area, meet the local elected officials and to listen to citizens concerns. Wilson described the tour down highway 6 to East Carbon, looking at the impact of coal trucks on the highway, during the tour they discussed projects along highway 10. County Commissioner Ira Hatch reported on some road projects in Emery County that have been completed. He pointed out that State Road 10 is a life line for Emeiy County and now has a traffic count of about 8000 ADP He reported that there are ruts in State Road 10 caused by truck traffic as well as structural damage to bridges in some locations. He stated that Muddy Bridge is a safety hazard. Larry began working for the Spanish Fork Press, as a supplement to his teaching salary. He did a great job and he was offered the editor position for the paper. He left teaching for a time and worked as editor for two years. The editor position became available at the Emery County Progress, and Larry applied for the job. Gwen Callahan did an excellent job here at Canyon View, and I have no j major plans for changes. Larry commented when asked of his plans for f Canyon View. I will carry on with proj cedures and policies that are in place, I and change things as the need arises". Larry stated I am excited to begin this new year here at Canyon View, and am looking forward to meeting the students in August. I have a staff meeting planned for August 9th where I will go over things with the faculty and get I their input and ideas. I hope to have a ' good working relationship with everyone here at Canyon View When asked the reason behind his j leaving teaching at the High School, Larry expressed those ideas. I am ready for the challenge of being an administrator. I want each student who comes to Canyon View to have a positive t learning experience. I am on the side with the students, and I plan to disci; pline with dignity as situations warrant. I loved teaching and wot king with stun new addition to the Emery : teaching for the next 10 years.
