'liilds, chief of the Hunting-to- n Volunteer Fin Ifepartmcnt for more than 25 years, has been selected as the Utah I'owerl 'tah Jazz Community Most Valuuhle I'erson for the month of January 2002. Childs will be recognized for his contributions to his community during halftime of the Jan. 20, Utah Jazz pane in the Delta Center in Salt hike City. Hill Handels, executive vice president of Utah Power, and a representative of the Utah Jazz will present him with a special plaque and other recognition awards for his outstanding community involve ( iurtli ( lie was nominated by Huntington City Council member, Norm Richardson. Childs brought the first formal training programs to the Huntington Volunteer Fire Department in the early 1070s. In addition to serving as volunteer fire chief, Childs serves as an emergency medical technician, something hes been doing for more than 22 years, and is also a member of the Finery County Sheriffs Posse, the Finery County Fire Department, and is a special deputy fire marshall for the state of Utah. Childs also gives his time to the Hoy Scouts of America in Huntington, and is a veteran of the Vietnam and (Julf wars. Through our association with (iarlh, we have never known a time when he was not actively involved in service to others, to his family, and to our community, said Richardson. He has spent a lifetime in community ser-- , vice." The Community MVP program is a partnership between Utah Power and the Utah Jazz that recognizes individuals throughout the intermountain area who make significant contributions to . improving their communities through volunteer activities. The MVP program recognizes individuals in six categories: Education, Public Safety, Environment, Senior, Youth, and Human Service. MVPs are selected based on nominations. Nomination forms are avail- able on the Utah Jazz web site, UtahJazz.com. Nominations will be accepted through April. Garth is married to Alyee Geary Childs and they are the parents of four children, Kimberly Monson, kate Bird, Kevin Childs and Kalvin Childs. The defendant pled guilty to the charges in October of 2000 and appeared in court for sentence, judgment and commitment proceedings. The defendant admitted to two of the allegations in the order to show cause, and denied two other allegations. The court dismissed the allegations in dispute. Johansen were: Kurin Lorraine Sehudc Schade appeared in court in sentence, judgment and commitment proceedings for charges of Financial Transaction third Offenses, a Class A Misdemeanor which she pled guilty to in Juneof 2001. In court proceedings Schade admitted to six of the allegations in the order to show cause and the court dismissed four of the allega-- t ii ms. The defendants probation was revoked and she was ordered to serve the sentence as imposed in the original sentence, judgment and commit- revoked and then reinstated. The defendants original terms of probation are still in full force and the fine is stayed upon his successful completion of Drug Court. Tucker also appeared in ment. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Emery County sheriff and the court ordered six months of the origi- nal one year jail term suspended. The defendant entered a plea in abeyance agreement on the charge in January of 2001. In a meanor. Doinenick Charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, a Class A Misdemeanor; court for sentence, judgment and commitment proceedings regarding a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, a Class A Misdemeanor which he pled guilty to in January of 2000. Tucker admitted to twe of the allegations in the order to show cause and denied two others. Die court dismissed the allegations in dispute. Tuckers probation w'as revoked and reinstated. Hurgess pled guilty to the charge in December. The court sentenced Hurgess to a suspended prison term and placed on probation for one year. Conditions of probation include a jail term, w'hich he had already served. Class H Misdemeanor; and Speeding, a Class C Misde- review hearing the court questioned the defendant about his progress and compliance with tiie plea in abeyance agreement. The defendant indicated he has paid his fee in full and has completed IOP. Bell w'as ordered to provide the court with proof of his completion of the IOP program. Another review hearing will be scheduled prior to the termination of the plea in abeyance agreement. The final review hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2002. a Class A Misdemeanor; and Use or Possession of Drug a Class A Misde- Para-phernali- a, meanor. In arraignment proceedings the defendant was advised of rights and penalties and Domenick advised the court that he would have an attorney to represent him. Trial setting is scheduled for Feb. 20. gree Felony. The defendant contacted the county attorneys office after court and said she had no transportation to court. The court continued the case to the next law and motion day, but authorized the issuance of a bench warrant if the defendant does not appear. Initial appearance is scheduled for Feb. 20. Daniel Anthony Reed Charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, a Class A Misdemeanor; and Driving on a Denied Li cense, a Class C Misdemeanor. Reed pled guilty on the charges and in arraignment proceedings he was advised of rights and penalties. The court ordered a presentence investigation and the judge ordered adult parole and probation to prepare a presentence report. Sentencing is scheduled for March 19. Jeremie Lee Worley Charged with Burglary, a 3rd Degree Felony; and Theft, a Class B Misdemeanor. The clerks office reported that a friend of the defendant had called and indicated that Worley had been involved in a car accident in New Mexico and could not be to court. Upon stipulation of counsel, the matter was continued to the next law and motion day. Disposition is scheduled for Feb. 20. Vincent Mac Kelly Charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, a 3rd Degree Felony, and Simple Assault, a Class A Misdemeanor. The defendant pled guilty to the charges in April of 2000 and in an in court notice the court indicated it had received a letter from Four Corners Mental Health stating that the defendant has been attending his counseling. The defendant advised the court that he had completed phase one of the IOP. The court ordered the defendant to pay the remaining interest balance on his fine and ordered that the defendants formal probation to continue for the length of the original term. A review hearing is scheduled for June 17, 2003. Elliott pled guilty to the charge and in arraignment proceedings he was advised of his rights and penalties. He waived a preliminary hearing and the court ordered a presentence investigation. Upon stipulation of counsel the defendant was allowed to withdraw his plea to Count I and to enter a plea to Count II. The condition of his continued bail release are modified so that the defendant may have contact with the victim outside of counseling or the presence of a third party so long as they continue their counseling. Sentencing is scheduled for March 19. Jerry Lynn Evans Charged with Possession of a Clandestine Lab Equipment Supplies, a 2nd Degree Felony; Illegal Possession Use of Controlled Substance, a 2nd Degree Felony; Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor; Illegal Possession Use of a Controlled Substance, a Class A Misdemeanor; and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, a Class B Misdemeanor. A copy of amended information was provided to the defense counsel and he waived the formal reading. Defense counsel objected to the filing of the amended information and re- quested to continue with the suppression hearing on the origi- nal information. The court authorized the filing of the amended information and vacated the hearing on the motion to suppress and scheduled a preliminary hearing on the amended information. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 19. John Robert Elliott Charged with Aggravated Assault, a 3rd Degree Felony. Daniel Jon Fancy Charged with Attempted Bur-- glary (amended), a 3rd Degree Felony. The defendant pled guilty to the charge in January of 200 1. The defendants probation officer in St. George contacted the prosecutors office and requested a continuance because the defendant had just started a new job. The state did not object to the continuance. An order to show cause evidentiary hearing is scheduled for March 19. Kevin M. Olsen Charged with Illegal Possession Use of Controlled Substance, a 3rd Degree Felony; Illegal Possession Use of a Controlled Substance, a Class B Misdemeanor; and Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Class B Misdemeanor. Defense counsel advised the court that he had sent notice to thedefendant about the hearing and did not know why he was not present. The court authorized the issuance of a bench warrant for Olsens arrest with bail fixed at $20,000. The defendants previous bail was ordered forfeited. Mario A. Soto Charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, a 3rd Degree Felony. The case was continued upon stipulation of counsel. Oral arguments are scheduled for Feb. 20. Travis A. Blood Charged with Violation of a Protective Order, a Class A Misdemeanor. The defendant pled guilty to the charge in January 2000. The defendant admitted to four of the allegations in the affidavit and order to show cause and two of the allegations were dismissed.
