Billie .Jean wax selected because of her ever present enthusiastic manner, positive altitude, genuine friendly nature, and earing feeling for others. She is w idelv respected by students across tirade levels as well as the faculty and staff of the school. 'The Salt Lake Jlympic ( Committee invited the I 'tali schools to nominate a student vv ho most represented the ideals of the Olympic names. These students were honored with an Olympic pin from SI.OC and participated in special activities arranged for them. The students each were rewarded with an official Olympic jacket and opportunity to attend the openingeereinnmexof the 2002 Winter ( Jlympir ( iames on Feb. )rga-nizi- 8. Parents were requested to transport the students to a Cheerleaders take 2nd in Snow College Competition S specified location in Malt Lake City where they were met by ' SL( )( chaperones to spend the afternoon with other students eatingpizza, learuingahout the Raines, and preparing for the evening opening ceremony. At the conclusion of the ceremonies, the students rendezvoused vv ith their parents again and returned home. Emery High cheerleaders took second place, in the Snow College competition held Jan 26, in Ephraim. They also, were picked as the best team for stunts and pyramid's, and had a lot of spirit. The cheerleaders are coached by, Tiffany Sorensen. He competed against other school winners from throughout the district. Brett attends Huntington Elementary and is in the fifth grade. He is the son of Doug and Kathy Mecham. Job Shadow Day San Rafael TLC students in During the month of January Book Cliff Elementary conducted class spelling bees to select winners to represent the school at the Emery School District competition. The winners competed against winners from other schools up to the eighth grade. Courtney Carter, 4th grade, and Marvin Arnold, 5th grade, were the winners from Book Cliff Elementary and represented the school at the district spelling bee on Jan. 25. The students learned that the subjects taught in school really are important in the world of work. The day was not only fun, but it was also a great learning experience for the students. Kyle Gortat, who spent the day at Castle Valley Water District said, "I would and wouldnt like this job. Id like to drive the equipment and dig holes and stuff, but I wouldnt like to check sewer ponds and sewer lagoons. It was fun cheeking meters and runningequipment." Laeee Taylor (Nurses Aide) states, I would like to do this job because it sounds very fun and I think I would enjoy it a lot. Taking care of people is a very fun job because when you see those happy faces, it makes you feel good. Seven chapters competed for area positions, then winners will compete on a state level. Emery first place winners are Bro Anderson, Star State Farmer Placement; Cierra Jones, Ag Communications, Environmental Science, and Natural Resources Placement and Cierra also took first place in Swine Production Entrepreneurship. First place in Prepared Public Speaking was Kortnie Anderson. Second place winners are Audra Brasher, Beef Production Entrepreueurship, and second place in Beef Production Placement was Jessie Bennett. Jannalee Tuttle took a third place in Creed Speaking.
