Show Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday August 6, 2002 5A Emery County 1 mery untv Fair 2002 The Emery County Fair concluded this past week with a host of different activities rounding out the week. Entertainment filled the park each evening and the smell of the lamb fry was in the air. The farm bureau talent find took place as well as the horse races in Ferron. A dutch oven cook-of- f was held in the park and the children enjoydd the booths and the giant slide. The community theatre provided the entertainment on Thursday and Al Shakespeare sang to audiences on Wednesday. The Val Jensen Band and Terry Taylor, yodeling vocalist were all part of the action. The fair bike ride also took place on Saturday. The Eastern Arts World of Dance entertained fair goers on Saturday as well. Photos by Pstsy Stoddard and Brandy Fuller Dian Thomas entertains crowds with presentation offestive ideas By PATSY STODDARD Editor The Emery County Fair goers were treated to the fun ideas presented by Dian Thomas. .She did presentations on July 25 and 26 funder the big top at the fair-- ! grounds. Thomas has appeared on numerous television shows and is known throughout the nation for her creative and festive ideas. Thomas specializes in ideas that are quick and inexpensive. Al her presentation on July 25 she ; described ail of the fun things you can do with dry ice. She made a pumpkin out of a plastic bottle and put a piece of dry ice inside. She oovered the ice with hot water and the vapor from the dry ioe came out the top of the pumpkin. She said you can also cut holes for the eyes and nose and the vapor will come out through those holes. She j said f to one one her favorite things do is to enter a Halloween party with a flowing pumpkin in her witches hat and cape. Thomas also showed how a yard of muslin can quickly turn Jinto a rag doll. She also enlightened the crowd on dutch oven cooking. One tip Thomas is fa- mous for is her ice cream in a tan. You put a smaller container with a lid and the ice cream custard inside of a coffee can. Fill the can with ioe and rock salt and put on I the lid. Kick the can around for a while and the ice cream freezes for an instant treat. County residents took the tips and ideas seriously, as the next y day in the fair parade the Teleotn float, which is a train engine, had smoke coming out of the stuck courtesy of the dty ire tip.
