Show JUNE 1, 1983 Lifes Greatest Work More Yon Give Tine More Yob. Have By CHERIE HUBER February 10, 1963, was a grim night that will long be remembered by the Smoot family of Centerville and many .of the other residents of the town. An east wind came up that night and tore an electric wire apart at the Smoot Dairy. A neighbor alerted the Smoots that the dairy was on fire but it was already too late. THE COMBINATION of wind and dry straw brought a firey death to the 140 Jersey cows which all died still trapped in their stalls. The prized bull was freed and led out only to collapse and die at the door of smoke inhalation. The spectacular fire that even closed the freeway when fireballs began to shoot across the field destroyed in a very short time the familys livelihood and broke hearts. But as destructive as the fire was, it carried with it seeds for good that are still flowering in Centerville. The families of Centerville worked with the Smoots in what has become a tradition of helping to rebuild the dairy. For 74 days they worked resting only on Sundays. The wreckage was cleared, the dairy was rebuilt and new livestock was found. Just 74 days after the fire, FREE AND EASY STAN SMOOT said recently, Service to mankind is the greatest work of life. We feel that the more you give the more you have. We love the people of our community, our state, and our country and we are happy that we have chosen paths that have allowed us to serve them. We feel our lives have been blessed because of that service. Centerville and the entire country have benefited in many ways from Stan Smoots interest in serving. He has served as stake president of Utah State University is had a basic accounting course, the cost of this course will be in addition to the program cost. -- FOR FURTHER 12 informa- tion call the USU Hill Air Force Base office, 777-353- ated the Davis Library system, the Davis hospital system and brought mass transportation to RAInJeT inch SPRINKLERS The sprinkler of the future. 4 rain jets wiH 24 ordinary sprinklers. The Smoot family was recalling that support when they donated Smoot park to the families of Centerville. The park, on land that would be valued at about a million dollars if it were divided for homes will be a perpetual thank you from the Smoot family to their friends and neighbors in Centerville. Centerville citizens can also feel that perhaps their support of the Smoot family encouraged Stan and Mary Ellen Smoot to continue on their paths of service to the community. - 4 12 cu. ft. seamless tray - solid wood handle - 400-- 8 pneumatic wheels Baked caramel finish DIG-EZ- Y SHOVEL - Forward turned steps make digging easier - Lightweight strong 12.99 3.00 JOB SERVICE |
